While you're at it, why don't you suggest we get rid of Gambir, Raina. Pathan, Yuvraj etc who all have been pathetic against short ball? I doubt anybody could've done better opening the innings today against raw pace and bounce, particularly when chasing a stiff target and pressured with hitting out in first 6 overs. I

No offense but Vijay should be kept limited to test matches only especially outside the Indian subcontinent .. he was lucky a couple of times in IPL thats it .. as I said previously Uthappa would have been much better replacement for Veeru as he can play the bouncers at least

More than Vijay (who I wasn't expecting much from anyways) I am surprised at just how uncomfortable Gauti has looked against the short pitched stuff in this tournament. The ball that dismissed him today was actually unplayable, but even otherwise against the regular short pitched stuff, he has been so akward, as bad as Raina.

Others at least score at a fast pace but a SR of 50 in T20 as an opener is horrible .. 7 off 14 balls is not justified as an opener .. he is not fit for T20 .. he should be only there in the test squad and nowhere else

not doubting his test skills for now .. he can leave the bouncers or fast bowlers in tests but you cannot do so in ODIs and T20s .. so I think he should not play in the shorter formats thats it

There is a fine line between Jaffer's somnolence and Laxman's elegance. I think Vijay is definitely veering towards the latter than the former :).

why are so many ppl clueless despite watching indian cricket for years? our younger players usually have a pretty tough time when they first go outside asian conditions. in the shorter formats, its very difficult as you have to dominate in conditions you are not used to. raina's bad times started when he first went to WI in 2006. uthappa failed in the wi in 2007 wc. rohit has been impressive on occasions but he failed in eng and wi last year if you remember yuvraj and sehwag in 2001, they were not doing great outside asian conditions either. even sachin took some time to start going in nonasian conditions. it has been happening since the time i started watching. vijay shud not be judged based on this.he will settle himself after a few more tours like so many predecessors before him did..

He may not be able to pull and hook 90mph bouncers(not sure who can in modern day cricket with regular success), which means in 20/20 were you have to take on the short ball it could be tricky. However, in tests (which is real cricket) he is gonna be suberb. He will have no problems with short ball there. As like all our batters he can duck and leave them and be selective when to take it on. Stop slamming our batters based on 20/20 lottery games. I guarantee if you swap the bowling round aussie bowlers would have struggled big time against Tait and co. While we would have smashed Nehra, Pathan and co.

Completely agreed. I dont know of a single batsman in the world who would have looked at ease dominating against bowling of such pace and quality, especially since the RRR was 9 and rising. edit: Besides, I'm sure not many bowlers would be able to bowl such spells in a test match. Roach, Edwards, Steyn, MJ and (maybe) Bollinger. Bowlers are more likely to go all out in tonty-tonties..
