The Outsider Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 With wrist slitting at full flow, just wanted to get an idea what are the par expectations of the team from ICF? For me, a Super 8 exit with a minimum of 1 win in the Super 8 league is a par performance for the current team. So, even accounting for the fact that T20 really does not get my pulses racing, I am not going to be disappointed unless we end up losing all our matches.
veer Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 runner up is my expectations.. should beat everyone except Ozzies.. Ozzies are very well set up to win cup this time.
Gunner_Mania Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Personally for me into the Semis is par expectation. As you can see in a similar threaded posted some days ago, most people expect us not to go to the semis. http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=220052
vvvslaxman Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Super 8 exit. That is what my guess from the outset. Because we have so many out of form players, injured players, untested players. My hopes somewhat lifted after seeing Yuvi last match. Because in T20 India = Yuvraj . That has been the theory for a while.
HowardRoark Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Semis will be par. Anything thereon will be difficult to predict.
satyam1729 Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 i think this inability to score off short balls is accentuated because of the fact that we dont have sehwag on the top. He was absent most of the time in the last world cup and this time as well. when Sehwag plays, he helps the team in three ways- 1) as a batsman he is least bothered how fast or how bouncy the wicket or bowler is. He can score off any one. if not with the pull shot then by swaying back and upper cutting over third man. 2) He upsets the rhythm of bowlers and i am sure that with him in full flow, the bowlers wouldnt have been able to bowl the same line and length ball after ball. 3)When he is around, the other batsmen dont need to take risks to up the ante as he himself takes care of it. so the rainas and gambhir could have left the short pitched balls and avoided taking under risk. We surely are missing him badly. Infact i was wondering how different it would have been had been, had we had Sehwag and Sachin to open.
cowboysfan Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 i predicted before the world cup even started(many times in fact)that we will not be successful in this tournament.I think our bowlers right now have no real wicket taking ability to win us any must win matches in t20s or odis.we will see much the same in the 2011 world cup.i didnt really expect this abysmal batting performance though.
Karan114 Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I've voted for Super 8's with one victory. Will be disappointed if we lose to the WI, but don't expect us to beat Lanka. Given our performances since the 2007 World T20, anything better than that will be above par.
vvvslaxman Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 i predicted before the world cup even started(many times in fact)that we will not be successful in this tournament.I think our bowlers right now have no real wicket taking ability to win us any must win matches in t20s or odis.we will see much the same in the 2011 world cup.i didnt really expect this abysmal batting performance though. That is exactly the problem. They don't take wickets to check the rate. They just bowl for containment. If one bowler is good on a given day everyone else is crap. But chances are this one bowler will be crapping all over in the next match. Some other guy would bowl better. We don't have consistently good bowlers.
zen Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I would say a semis berth would be my par expectation, esp with the way they played in the first round. In 2003 WC, after getting thrashed by the OZ we picked up our game so let's hope we repeat that kind of performance .... Once you get in to the semis anything can happen I would say it's not bad to lose the first S8 if we can learn something from it, get our combination and strategy right. For the next two S8 games, we need to play the following 11: - Vijay - Gambhir - Rohit - Raina - Dhoni - Yuvi - YP - Bhajji - Vinay - Nehra - Yadav If YP struggles to bowl most of his overs than we would have no option but to bring in Karthik and go in with 7 batsmen. On a bouncy pitch, it may not be a bad idea to have Karthik at 3 as he is one of the better players of short pitched stuff .... The likes of Raina, Yuvi, YP (if in the 11), etc should not be batting above 4 given their weakness against short pitched stuff
Deleted_User_1 Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Go home now.....you shyte team!! that is a par performance for this shyte team
Sid Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 well i always thought coming into the tournament that we will win only against afghanistan but we also won against sa ,it is a bonus for us we should be happy with our performance we have played above par,be happy guys:two_thumbs_up:
