Kartik should open today instead of Vijay...

Good against pace and the moving ball- proved that on away tours opening for India in test cricket, once he settles his 'unorthodoxy' with the bat will be useful. Is probably livelier in the field. Itd be giving MV a very short stick indeed, but not sure how he is feeling after a not so great tourno thus far- Bit more of a long format cricketer? In a do or die game perhaps a punt is worthwhile Discuss.

Sure. But MS doesn't agree with us. He may be wrong but he has his reasons. And Karthik is also a better batsman than Vijay in this form of the game.

Karthik is must for this game. He has performed really well when ever he was given a chance. His fielding is also excellent. He can come in place of Yusuf who is a pure garbage.

Karthink has failed on lots of occasions given before. Vijay has had just 3 and has a 48 in one of them...Trust him!!
against Afghanis at St . Lucia?totally different proposition.Karthik has got a good backfoot game, pulls well.plus has more attackin shots.all Vijay does is hoick it over midon or midwicket

He dosent 'suck big time' and I partly agree with Zap..is a bit unfair on MV after just three matches, two of them agst world class attacks... but it has come to that, we need to make a bigish call that may well decide whther we win or lose...

but it has come to that' date=' we need to make a bigish call that may well decide whther we win or lose...[/quote'] So bringing in a guy who averages 17 in T20I cricket and strike rate 117 is going to be the call that will change our fortunes? Our problems are far deeper, with no top class bowlers and a batting line-up intimidated by short pitched bowling. Vijay has failed but replacing him with another weak player (don't get me wrong, I like Karthik and was impressed by his Test batting in 2007 as well but in T20 he is not that great) is going to make no difference if Gautam, Raina, Yuvi etc. get bullied by Roach and Taylor.

Why not send Yusuf Pathan as an opener? He cliks , we get the foundation for an imposing total. If he fails, well that doesnt change much cos we are in anyways not getting much from Vijay or GG.

Our bowling not being so great being one of them. But in the very short term- i.e today- Kartik for Vijay I think could be a call that will change our fortunes. Im only saying based on those test performances-which may not be a good way to judge it being a different format- he is a better option vs the short ball and should play... not to mention him being more experienced at this level. Its not easy to judge based on Average- Raina and Sehwag only average 20's in T20- and his SR isnt outstanding, but we know he can bat

so if karthik fails.. another thread gonna start up with either vijay opening or rohit opening?? point is if you have someone with talent, you gotta have patience with him.. and not just randomly go with the next guy on couple of failures..
