Rohit fined for showing dissent Cricinfo staff May 10, 2010 Indian batsman Rohit Sharma has been fined 15% of his match fee for showing dissent at the umpire's decision while batting during the Super Eights match against West Indies at the Kensington Oval on Sunday. Rohit was on five when he tried to paddle sweep Kieron Pollard. The ball lobbed up to the wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin, who claimed the catch and the appeal was upheld by the umpire Billy Bowden. However, Rohit initially refused to leave as he gestured to the umpire that the ball lobbed off his arm. Bowden walked across to the square leg umpire Simon Taufel but the umpires obviously couldn't refer it to the third umpire because the argument was not about whether the catch was taken cleanly or not. As far as I am concerned, Rohit did the right thing (who cares about that match referee :P) If nothing more, at least it would stop the trigger happy umpires from raising their finger (no pun intended) at appeals

He did the right thing by indicating his forearm, but perhaps shouldnt have told the umpire to go for the 3rs umpire.

Poor guy. Think about his situation. He is dropped from the side last year and has made a comeback to the T20 side. He is playing a very very important game in the World cup. A good innings could not only take India to the next stage but could also buy him more time in the national team. All gone , thanks to an idiotic umpiring error with the umpire facing no consequences for his mistake.

Is there anything like morality in the ICC's rule book? How can you not refer to the third umpire when billions of people saw it hit the arm. It's so obvious and ICC should be more considerate about such issues. Some rules are just there to hurt the game, REALLY!

Yes. But its not everyday you see an Indian player doing this, even when he is right. Rohit seems to have grown some guts from somewhere. Good on him :cheer:

I would be extremely disappointed if I was Rohit Sharma considering that a certain Stuart Broad shows dissent almost every other game and does not even get so much as a slap on the wrist. Appeal.

dude what he did was blatantly wrong ! can't expect to justify his actions of course he must have been dissapoint but you just have shrug your shoulders and trudge along hoping a chance will present itself sooner rather than later. and 99.94 is perfectly right how can we be so hypocritical. IMHO umpriring is probably the most difficult and thankless job in cricket.

Bowden is a very decent man. he was lenient on rohit. had it been doctrove/ buckoner/ hair... they would showed all their arrogance.
