zen Posted June 20, 2010 Author Posted June 20, 2010 its not about the last match ' date='a player who is been playing for last 10 years has to be a certainity in the side,if his negative approach in middle overs sometimes was to be looked at then it should had been done much earlier not now,as far as wicket taking is concerned ashwin might be a good option with his variation but bhajji is a certainity[/quote'] I don't agree with such line of thinking .... In fact there is a saying in Sanskrit which translates in to 'nothing is permanent' .... Experience has certain weightage but in the end it's form that matters. Case point Inzamam, Anwar selected for Pak in 2003 WC .... But yeah, if you have experienced players who are in form too then there is nothing like it :winky:
jusarrived Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Tendulkar Viru GG Raina Dhoni Yuvi/uthappa/Kohli/Rohit Uthappa/Kohli/Rohit/yuvi Harbajan Ashwin/PK/Jadeja/IP Zaheer Yadav 4 bowlers are good enough for ODI , unlike other teams we have Yuvi,Raina,Viru ,rohit to fill in for 10 overs ...we will have to take that risk !
zen Posted June 20, 2010 Author Posted June 20, 2010 The 15 men squad like the one below would be good: Batsmen: Tendulkar, Sehwag, Gambhir, Dhoni (wk), Raina, Yuvi, Uthappa (can keep too and good enough to play in top order as well as low order) Seamers: Zak, PK, Ishant/Nehra, Irfan (also all-rounder) Spinners: Bhajji, Ojha, Ashwin 15th: Kohli / Rohit / Karthik (wk), Mishy (leggie), Jadeja (back up spin bowling so called all-rounder), Nayar, ....
gaurav92 Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 My 15 man squad would be like :- BATSMEN Goddy Veeru Gauti Yuvi Raina Dhoni Rohit ALL ROUNDERS Jadeja Irfan SPIN ATTACK Bhajji Ojha PACE BATTERY Zaheer Nehra PK Sree/Dinda/Ishant(if he comes back strongly)
Lord Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 If you want over all balanced squad 1) Tendulkar 2) Viru 3) Gauti 4) Raina 5) Dhoni 6) Yuvraj 7) Irfan 8) Harbhajan 9) Zaheer 10) Praveen 11) Ojha This gives us 3 right handed/3 left handed batsmen as top 6. Yuvraj, Viru, Raina can chip in with few overs. Gives us 3 genuine seamers, 2 genuine spinners 2 decent part timers. Irfan, Bhajji, Praveen can bat decently. Some might prefer Ravi in place of Ojha as he can atleast score a few once in a while. But that would be wrong as Ojha is a genuine wicket taker. I frankly think you cannot possibly go wrong with this team. agree but i'm confused about having PK.we lack a death bowler i think Nehra or Dinda can do a good job at that.Dinda bowled some great yorkers in Zim
Sid Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 agree but i'm confused about having PK.we lack a death bowler i think Nehra or Dinda can do a good job at that.Dinda bowled some great yorkers in Zim To even think of nehra as a death bowler seems comical,he can neitrher bowl in powerplays nor in death overs.I am a great fan of Dhoni and his captaincy and his batting, but he is showing wrong faith in two useless cricketers jadeja and nehra,i just hope he learns it sooner rather than later that both these cricketers are waste of time becoz if he doesnt than he will face the consequences as the captain has to give the answers

By including these players he is ensuring that the team exits quickly from major events and then the rockstars can go back to their Ad shoots, fashion ramps, reality TV shoots and all other ways to make quick money and then you have IPL. I'm pretty sure Dhoni has support of other senior players in this arrangement as it suits everybody.

philcric Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Tricky situation for India with the all-rounders (term very loosely used) and bowlers. Batsmen are very good. Pace bowlers are ****. Spinners are decent/good (but **** at batting/fielding). Jadeja .... probably the most unpopular in the team among the fans .... v good fielder, decent bowler and a frustrating batsman so far .... but his domestic record suggests he 'can' bat well. India unfortunately doesn't have the luxury of a genuine all-rounder. (The word 'best' from here on refers to the best in 'primary skill' without considering fielding or seconday skill). India has to decide what they want. Best bowling attack they can put on park (5 best bats + wk + 3 best pacers + 2 best spinners, without considering their batting/fielding credentials) OR go with their stregth ie. batting hoping bowlers/part-timers do a decent job (6 bats + wk + 3 best pacers + 1 best spinner, considering all part-timers are spinners) OR go for a hybrid team where couple of players get in only because they can 'also' contribute with their secondary skill. The 'hybrid' combination that India could try ... 5 batsmen + WK + 1 best pacer bat + 1 best spinner bat + 2 best pacers + 1 best spinner. Unfortunately or otherwise, I Pathan and R Jadeja are the best bowling-allrounders India have. Jadeja adds a lot with his fielding and I Pathan also is much better fielder compared to other bowlers in the team. Not saying this is gonna work, but may be this combo is worth a try. Sachin Viru Gambhir *+ Dhoni Yuvi / Kohli / Rohit (whoever is in the best form) Raina I Pathan R Jadega H Singh 2 of Z Khan / P Kumar / A Nehra / I sharma / Whoever / Sir Aggy :winky:
