SINGAPORE: Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday formally took over as president of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Pawar, who is the second Indian after Jagmohan Dalmiya to occupy the ICC top post, was given the charge during the annual conference week of the world cricket body. Dalmiya was the first Indian to be elected to the president's post in 1997. Pawar, who is also the Indian Agriculture Minister, is the seventh ICC president, succeeding Englishman David Morgan who concluded his two-year term. He has taken over the top post at a crucial time when India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are scheduled to host the 2011 cricket World Cup.

Does he even talk? I swear I hardly ever hear any interviews or anything video talk. His stroke affected face seems to hinder it.

There was a stand off between BCCI and ECB regarding president's post as ICC appointment’s committee failed to choose a winner between the representatives of both boards. It was resolved through an agreement between Pawar and Morgan where it was decided that Morgan will be the president from June 2008 to June 2010 and Pawar will succeed him for the next two years!

Mr.Pawar is a genius. He struck this deal conspicuously in tandem with India hosting the World Cup. What he did was, convinced Mr.Morgan to run the ICC until 2010 and let Mr.Pawar run it during the World Cup. Monies and deals for the World Cup at his behest :woot:
