Time's xenophobic article "My own private India" deplored on Times Now

I live in the US atm. It pokes fun of immigrants as a whole many of whom are here temporarily as well.
I don't see the Chinese, Israeli's or Blacks being as much of favourites for the satirists as Indians. The problem is they believe Indians are quiet people, whom they can make fun of and get away, without any consequences. When people do face consequences (like the Aussies did for the racial attacks on Indian students), they lack the will or courage to accept their mistake and move on. This is what I have a problem with. Don't pick on Indians with assumptions of impunity. And this is where I welcome the role of our media, which holds a sense of pride and honour despite being accused of having economical interests in selecting story's. Have a look at the video of the debate on Times Now. The men are outraged - Since when is racism funny? To sign off, I'd like to reiterate my point. If someone dislikes something, it is deplorable to try those stunts with them. This isn't the first instance of Indians and our Gods being made fun of. People trying to rile up emotions in the name of "humour" should take a walk. And when a community makes their discontent clear, you should learn your lesson and move on; not try something new to make fun of them. Like I said - Its not funny when people feel insulted.

Are you kidding me that the Chinese aren't made much fun of? You obviously don't follow much American tv or movies. Their accents and looks are always made fun of. As far as black people go, there is too much history for these people to make fun of them. That I will agree with you on. Jews are torn apart by a lot of people here. Try checking out the jokes section of Reader's digest in the US if you want.

Dudes like achilles have taken the responsibility of getting offended on behalf of others. "It is not funny when people get offended " ... ****er, it is ****ing annoying when you get offended on those people's behalf. And what kind of bullshit is the saying that "why did he not pick on blacks,chinese,muslims,etc"...IS IT SO ****ING HARD TO UNDERSTAND THAT EDISON,NJ IS RUN OVER BY INDIANS ? No other minority group COMES CLOSES to the kind of influence and population INDIANS have in EDISON. That is his hometown, and hence obviously he is going to write about Indians. I mean wtf ?

focal point .. is it ? I don't think so, that is the Kashmir & Maoist conflicts and the floods in north. There was a mention in the news and that's not a big deal. .
There was more than a mention of it. There was a debate on two news channels on prime time, one of the titled Face the Nation? WTF, what has this got to do with Facing the Nation? Ordinary Indians beyond the Intenet gen couldn't give a **** about what some bloke wrote about some of his 'citizen's changing his hometown.
And this is where I welcome the role of our media, which holds a sense of pride and honour despite being accused of having economical interests in selecting story's. .
7 days after the story broke out, after the author and the publishers have issued apology, for a 24 hrs channel which by the way according to you happens to be part of the same group that published the news story debating it is called trying to flog a dead horse.

^^ What Times Now is saying is that despite the apology, the article has not been withdrawn. Hence the coverage, albeit a bit late.

Off course, stupid guy has no business mentioning any god in that aticle. If it is Sattire, then keep it that way. In fact if he had gone even further, i wouldn't have cared. So according to him it is fun to call someone "dot heads" because they worship gods with muitiple arms?? What a moron. Call me a dot-head because I put one my forhead, i wont care someone is barking next to me. This is the bst satire he can come up against not so bright people in his town. But he forgot that everywhere else in the country, there are brighter indians who also worship the same god. :banghead: This was uncalled for. I dont care about rest of the article anyway.

On a side note, u wanna see something offensive, check this out; its Obama compared to Hitler & Lenin. Not that this is the first time this sort of thing happened. Stein's article doesn't come close to this sort of propaganda. 100713-obama-hitler-billboard-hmed-2p.grid-6x2.jpg A billboard ordered and paid for by the North Iowa Tea Party shows President Barack Obama, Adolf Hitler, left, and Vladimir Lenin, on South Federal Avenue in Mason City, Iowa, July 12, 2010

Just watching the special on Times Now. Quite despicable from Time Magazine. Its not funny when people feel insulted.
So lets get this straight, it doesn’t matter for what reasons anyone feel insulted, all that matters is the FACT that they felt insulted? So if the Muslims feel offended that a Danish newspaper published images of the Prophet Mohammed, that gives them a license to go around destroying property and issuing fatwas to kill people? Oh btw, I am insulted by the fact that you’re even posting in this forum, so I ask you to quit this forum. How does that sound? Quite ridiculous right? The kinds of people who feel insulted by almost anything are not the types who have the genuine well-being of the people on behalf on whom they feel insulted. They’re just 3rd rate hypocrites who looking for ways to get cheap publicity.

At the start of 20th century it was "considered" a white man's "burden" to educate and civilize asia and africa. When these white men see the former "uncivilized" states in a different reality, their whining mentality comes to the fore. They pick on minor aspects of our culture to show up the purported superiority of their own.

If someone feels insulted, they have a right to air their grievance. How else would someone know that his/her article ruffled feathers? In this case, like almost every involving Indians, they didn't go about destroying property and issuing fatwa's and neither did the Muslim community in India act out of order. And this is not the first instance. We've had instances where Ganpati bappa's photo has been morphed to show a beer in hand, Lord Shankar has been mocked and so are our Goddesses. So this reaction has been a long time coming. The point is, this article was in bad taste. Using the words he has and brush it under the carpet of humour is a joke. I'm sure you will concede that.
