Yeh but were talking about dominating as he does today' date=' and also remember no restrictions on bouncers at this time.[/quote'] he wouldnt have been as dominatiing with pacers, but I think he'd still be very aggresive n successful.n he could always make up against spinners.the spinners of those times r no match to Murali n Sehwag of today

I know he is good against pace' date=' he just cant hook or pull so playing as he does today would have been very hard back in the day because he wouldnt get anything to drive.[/quote'] Viv didn't hook with the kind of field set they have these days. Those days they used to leave long leg open. Nowadays they post 2 fielders. How about Veeru's cuts and slashes at impossible angles. And also when it comes to dominating quality spin even on spinning track Viv is nowhere close to Veeru.

Viv hooked and pulled easy like a sunday morning' date=' Sehwag cant.[/quote'] Viv never could play spinners like sehwag so what if he cant play hook shot like Viv, he has scored runs faster than Viv. Viv Richards was first player who took on bowlers that is why he is held at high regard rightfully so, but it does not diminish Sehwag.

Did you watch the match today ?. Plenty of pulls and hooks that too from balls angled into him and very wide ... it takes a lot of skill to fetch those and dispatch them infront of square to mid-wicket. Veeru is not a compulsive hooker or a puller but he can damn well play that shot if he wants to.
But Viv Richards hooking was sight for sore eyes, playing hook shot VIV was far superior, He was far better against pace bowling too but Sehwag is deadly against spinners. Viv Richards was the one of first batsmen who took on bowlers and was willing to play shots from the time he arrived at crease and the major reason his immortality is due to his domination of England.English media never could stop singing his praises.

No opener can be considered "bad" against fast bowling if he is avging well above 50 at a SR of 81. Infact he is probably pretty darned good against them. Its just that Sehwag simply thinks spinners shouldnt exist that leads to the assumptions like he doesnt play well against fast bowling. Sehwag has re-written the concept of "taking on the bowlers" .... I have seen IVAR play and trust me Sehwag is faaar more aggresive and brutal than IVAR. And he has played against Steyn,Ntini,McGrath,Gillespie,Blee,Mitch,Morkel,Shoaib,Asif,Malinga,Murli,Flintoff and Warne and has dominated each one of them. Viv had top 5 of the bowlers in his time playing in his team.
If you read my message I never said Sehwag was bad what I said Viv was better against Pace bowling than Sehwag my second point was Viv was one of the first batsmen who took bowlers never said he was more aggressive than Sehwag.

The old hook is getting replaced by the uppercut (much safer imho). Sehwag plays the pull well too. If he continues like this for another 3 years, he'd have every claim to be considered a better bat than Sir Viv. But best opener ever? Need to do a lot of work before he can take that from Sir Jack Hobbs.

Sunny Gavaskar?? He dominated the west indies like no other player 13 centuries against them with a freak average of 65!!! first player to reach 30 test centuries and 10000 test runs better than sehwag
Just checked some stats. Gavaskar piled up a lot of runs against WI till 1979, when he did not face the Roberts, Holding, Garner, Marshall combo. In games when he faced at least two of these four bowlers his average drops to 41.
Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave 100 50 0
filtered 11 20 2 745 236* 41.38 3 1 3

ok so.... now i ask u one question.. Gavaskar played 38 matches against England, He scored a 221 against them, so why does he average only 38.2 against them? were the English bowlers more fearsome than the West Indian bowlers? you need more info? check this thread, read all the posts. http://indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=216178

hmm... im ahuge sehwag fan.. but i think the only chink in his armour is his perfomrance in the 2nd innigs of a test match.... an opener shud be able to perfomr well in both the innings.. i m not sayin tht he isnt gud or smthin.. he's phenomenal.. but needs to wrk upon bating in the 2nd innings... and i think sunny ws greater in this respect.
