Debhasis Mohanty to Saeed Anwar in the first game of the 1998 Sahara Cup in Canada. That series was a 4-1 victory for a seriously understrength Indian team but they stormed to victory in conditions that assisted swing and both Mohanty and Harvinder Singh used the conditions to their best effect. That particular delivery had a banana-like trajectory: bowling around the stumps, the right handed mohanty pitched it in line with off and it seemed to be headed towards leg if it were to follow the trajectory from the bowler. The ball swung away... drifting away from the left handed batsman who prepared to defend his middle-off with a straight bat defense on the front foot. He missed the ball all together. The ball swung precipitously away from the off but almost as an after thought, turn around and moved back, as if it was homesick of its previous trajectory and after going past anwar's defense, it returned in line to the off stump and clipped the top of off. A dumbfounded anwar stared at his stumps and then looked up at the bowler in sheer disbelief. It was Mohanty's first wicket and the only wicket in that game. Two years or so later, Mohanty would be tossed from the team after being plundered by Jayasuriya on placid pitches with miniature boundaries in absolutely unhelpful conditions. In one single move, that delivery is symbolic of a bowler's fortunes: elevation (the wicket), abrogation (thanks to the all the matches we played on wickets more deader than winston churchill), and castration (removal from the team).

GG was stunned; he never expected that delivery to swing back in.it did and took his stump with it.GG shouldered arms.that delivery ignited the team to believe we can win the WC 83 final against Windies.... Balwinder Singh Sandhu, a braveheart who contributed to the team more than many other gifted cricketers. A fighter. Kapil bowled AB , the overnight not out batsman off the first ball. Dean jones some how miraculously survived the next ball. but Kapil removed him with the 3rd ball. R.Mohan, the Hindu correspondent then, my favourite cricket columnist, wrote that -"these 3 were the brst ever 3 consecutive deliveries bowled by an indian"!!! at that time , i believed those words. i could not watch the match live, but watched high lights in the night and that was an awesome sequence of magic, Kapil was born with outswinger, which he lost for a while along with his pace, and briefly regained the swing before retiring.
