rahulrulezz Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 As Marirs_Mania mentioned in some other thread, WE ALL ARE FORGETTING THAT WE ARE PLAYING 2011 worldcup on flat Indian pitches and this is where Y.Pathan will be mightyyyyy effective..people who doubt his batting ability against pace bowlers on Indian pitches need to watch his massacre of English bowling lineup last year..and lets forget his 100 in 37 balls in IPL where majority of his runs were scored against pacerss....He is an impact player who can win us matches singlehandedly..and people who criticize Y.Pathans bowling...check all the matches where he bowled...Cuz of his IPL bowling expereince, Dhoni make him bowl in power play overs whereas bhikhari ala Jadeja gets to bowl in middle overs where players are trying to consolidate... 2nd best alternative is I.Pathan... P.S. I officially hate two posters on ICF...sachin200 and IknowU and if I ever meet them in real life, I wud beat their ass
Lord Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 @MM:why do u think that 5th bowler has to be a 2nd spinner?why not a 3rd seamer?if Dhoni knows that seamers r gonna be hit come what may, then might as well have a 3rd seamer who can bat,no?this way we can play 6 bats +3rd seamer/no.7 bat +2 seamers +2 specialist spinners.apart from batting, spin is our strength on Indian tracks,we cant weaken that by having someone like Jadeja.no we cant have a proper batsman there, relying on part timers to go thru 10 overs+make up for overs if a strike bowler gets thrashed is asking too much so Irfan is the best option, but I know Jadeja is playing the WC.Dhoni has something against Irfan

Ram Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 @MM:why do u think that 5th bowler has to be a 2nd spinner?why not a 3rd seamer?if Dhoni knows that seamers r gonna be hit come what may, then might as well have a 3rd seamer who can bat,no?this way we can play 6 bats +3rd seamer/no.7 bat +2 seamers +2 specialist spinners.apart from batting, spin is our strength on Indian tracks,we cant weaken that by having someone like Jadeja.no we cant have a proper batsman there, relying on part timers to go thru 10 overs+make up for overs if a strike bowler gets thrashed is asking too much so Irfan is the best option, but I know Jadeja is playing the WC.Dhoni has something against Irfan As much as I'd respect Irfan's batting abilities, I dont think he's a no.7 bat. Dont get me wrong, his batting skills are not measly, but these days, you need someone who can get into the team with his batting abilities alone to bat at no.7. Thats how important that position is. Irfan will not come into the team with his batting alone, which obviously brings us to his bowling. Unfortunately, this is where the slide has been rather dramatic and alarming. The guy essentially feeds the batsmen with the staple diet of short-wide-hit-me balls and has been doing that for a while now. At least for now, his bowling is beyond redemption. Essentially, trying to play Irfan at no.7 is to pretend that he's a better batsmen than he actually is and a bowler he once used to be. That is not going to work at all The reason why i am so sure that the Indian management is paranoid about having the 3rd seamer option is simply by looking at some of the names they've tried.. They persisted with Sreesanth, who has this rather illustrious credential of being the MOST expensive specialist bowler in the history of all ODI cricket, that didnt work. They got desperate and tried absolute novices like Tyagi, which didnt work either. Now, its sheer rookies like Mithun. Why this obsession with the third seamer option? Wasnt Dhoni the captain CSK, the very same team that so effectively employed it spinning options in the opening overs of IPL 3? Whats wrong with giving that route a shot and seeing what happens? For all practical purposes, our pace attack at home is worse than buffet bowling - Its spoon fed buffet bowling. We should ditch that option and change course before its too late. We should have Nehra and Zak as the two frontline seam options and have PK as back-up in case one of them is injured. The rest should be an all out spin attack.
Ram Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Yusuf's gone. He does not have the temperament to succeed in high-pressure situations, which is the BASIC minimum requirement for a no.7 batsmen. He simply panics and plays ridiculous shots. Whats the point in having crazy hitting abilities, when you can barely hold yourself from peeing in the pants when the stakes increase? If only he was a bit more mature, he'd have been a terrific asset in the subcontinent, especially against spinners in power play situations. But thats just wishful thinking.

The rest should be an all out spin attack. the way I see it,since our bowlers r likely to get hit on flat tracks, the more options we can have, the better it is.Irfan may not be the best no.7,but hes not far off from the likes of Uthappa either,Irfan has played good test innings, which shows that he has the abilty to consolidate,n we know he can slog. about his bowling, but its not much worse than the ones we've tried either.if the pitch has some swing,he can be utilized early to get swing n can get through his overs.otherwise he can share the overs with the likes of Yuvraj,Sehwag.but leaving it all upto them is fraught with danger about what he did with CSK,International cricket is another level altogether.we saw him trying this in WT20.what happened was teams played out our main bowler Bhajji safely n feasted on others.n then its much longer n there is batting PP too to consider
Lord Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 options: 1. jadeja. a better spinner than a batsman, can go through 10 overs in every game, takes a few wickets every now and then, has won a couple of man of the match awards for his bowing. his batting is shyte for a number 7. can rotate strike and build partnerships but cant slog. woeful runer between the wickets, can singlehandedly lose games for india with his batting. has a decent batting average of 34, but pathetic strike rate below 80 which makes him a misfit for number 7 thats a myth of highest order.one look at his numbers u'll realise.hes gone through his overs only 8 times out of 31 games hes played.his bowling average is pathetic 44 with an E/R of 4.8.Yuvraj has an average of 40 and E/R of 5.so basically Jadeja's doing what can be done by a part timer Yuvraj too
achilles Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Irfan. As much as I would like Yusuf or Robbie to play No.7, given their superiority in batting as compared to Irfan and Jaddu, I feel Irfan's role as a fast bowling all-rounder will help the team's cause. He needs to pick himself up and fire. Tendulkar_Bhai 1
asterix Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Irfan Pathan. He has little bit of extra brain as compared to others. He has a stable head on his shoulders and I would like to have players like him in the team than deekheads like Jadeja, Yusuf or Uthappa..At no. 7 we need a cool headed batsman and not clueless or brain farting ones..
Gunner_Mania Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 3. I may disagree with him about certain points and therefore express those points on this forum. However, I do still believe that he is better suited to do the job than myself. He may also be better suited to the job than you because he has more cricketing abilities than you not necessarily more cricketing acumen. You also have the opportunity to look at the game from outside with a much wider perspective than he does. You also have the whole of ICF to discuss and debate your thoughts..he does not (Well he does too..we will welcome him with open arms if he comes here...but you get the point don't you..).
sudheer kumar Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Irfan pathan is most suitable at No.7 in sub-continent. If selectors ignore him....next choice is Yusuf pathan. In this sequence after these two players Kohli,Ashwin,Nayar. Uthappa should not play at No.7. His position should be Opener/No.6 Last choice is Ravindra Jadeja.
asterix Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 This is like: "Don't criticise Jadeja becuase he is actually playing the matches and not us".. If Dhoni plays 3 left hand spinners in the team just for the heck of it, who are we to say anything? Playing 3 spinners in the team is actually very common and most of the top teams do it and win matches, in'it? Giving a pathetic Jadeja full quota of overs while he gives away 60-70 runs is the mark of a great captaining brain. Who are we lesser mortals, who have not played cricket in our lives, to question about it?
gaurav92 Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Dhoni will go with Jaddu wonly. But i really hope Irfan gets an opportunity before the world cup and he PERFORMS well
sudheer kumar Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Actually my opinion is Jadeja should be last choice in that list I have mentioned. I am not criticizing Jadeja.
jf1gp_1 Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 another possible way to go forward would be to look at existing batting line up and identify that ideal No 7, besides Dhoni the only other person who could be considered is Sehwag. With Sachin and Gambhir we might not really miss an inconsistant sehway at top when it comes to ODIs. Yuvi comes at 4 and Dhoni at 6. We can then easily accomodate one more batsman/ half allrounder who can bat at 5. See if this order is worth a look Sachin Gambhir Raina Yuvraj Rohit/Kohli/Uttapa/ ??? Dhoni Sehwag

I think it will be biggest experiment by captain if he does like this. If Sehwag at no.7, How can we utilize first 10overs. Sachin and Gambhir both don't like to hit the ball very hard but sehwag likes to do it.

Dhoni Sehwag I think this is Sanjay Manjreker posting!!! Being serious on paper you could say Shewag scores quick so would fill that position, but in reality he has always opened and is used to the pace bowlers and NO ONE has ever scored as quickly as him in the first few overs to get us off to a good start. I think theres more chance of Agarkar coming back then that happening

saneindian Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 For all of you advocating Irfan Pathan's case as an allrounder, post the 2007 WC, his ODI form both with the bat and ball dipped alarmingly (his bowling became bad from the 2006 WI tour itself). Since that 2007 WC, his record reads 34 matches, 362 runs@18, no 50s, Strike Rate of 71 , 37 wickets@42 with a ER of 5.73 And we think he is the ideal replacement for Jadeja at number 7? He has not done much in domestic cricket either to suggest that he has been able to sort out the issues with his bowling. His average speeds during the IPL were around 123-124 kmph and his swing has still not come back. Yes on paper, he is our best all rounder, but once he is back he will be 2-3 matches away from being labelled a tried and tested failure. The best way to test his form would have been to first pick him for the India A tours, but the selectors didn't pick him as he has had a run-in with the present selection committee during the last Irani Trophy. Also, he has himself not helped his cause by refusing to go to the Kenya tri series with the Baroda team. He has not reported to the NCA either for rehab sessions or for sorting out his bowling issues. Now the only chance left for him will be to do well first in the corporate cup (in late september) and then in the challenger trophy (which will take place when the test series with Australia will be on). We maybe back to the 7 batsmen + 4 bowlers formula come the 2011 WC, with Uthappa slotting in at number 7, especially if he can carry his IPL form into the domestic season. Or who knows Yusuf Pathan killing some domestic attacks (which he is fully capable of doing) just before the WC squad is chosen, might get him a place in the final 15 and perhaps 11 as well.
