Shine Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I don't agree with Sri Lankan lion completely because every team has ups n downs time to time and there may be players which you hate in the team of the opposition country and we all like to back up our own team..Mostly we may criticize the opposition.That's the nature of humans!..but sometimes the comments made by SL lion is a bit overrated as well as INDIAN ones' too.So move on people!!!!!..

SL team has not proved itself by any counts outside the sub continent.Talking if test matches,they need to win a single test match in India, SA and Aus, the best sides in TC today. They drew a series each in NZ and Eng.Could not manage a series win in WI. Coming to ODIs,agreed that they have done better than us in WCs but there's a catch to it. They have fared well in WCs played in sub-continental like conditions. For example WI. Even in SA, where they made the semi-finals, there draw had most of the matches in port-elizabeth, where the pitch turns a lot. And just pit them against us in non subcontinental type wickets and find the results. Sucked big time in Natwest and Commomwealth. Even the players that they have,Mahela is a full time FTBso is samaraweera. Sangakara is the only one whom I would not term as great but atleast can play outside his comfort zone. Coming to the bowling attack, they only had 1 good fast bowler i.e Chamnida Vaas and one good spinner Murali. But even Murali struggled outside the sub-continent. I simply don't understand why the SL team compares themselves with ours. Its like comparing chalk and cheese.
jf1gp_1 Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 No doubt SL is a good team, their bowlin line up has a good mix of different type of bowler, they have a utility fast bowling allrounder in mathews, great fielding side, they still need that second opener with dilshan and a power hitting down the order to compliment mathews, once that is fixed they would do much better outside sub-continent. However with the departure of murli and jaya, SL team no longer look threatening. Yes one can expect a consistent performance from them by they dont look world beaters. As far as comparison with India goes, we do have a better test side, there is a reason why we are No 1 SL fans should accept it and move on. As far as ODI goes in sub continent there isnt much between either side, outside sub-continent though current Indian side would beat SL 7 out of 10 times.

But when they win you tend to forget all the critics. but if they lose again, I don't wanna say no more... But we do not have any sort of attitude towards our team. We have a good balance side in every aspect and a strong bench line up. In the last year Dilshan has performed way better than your best batsman Sehwag. Sanga remains #1 in test rankings. Mahela is all class. We have a found a modern cricket brain through Mathews. You'll see in the future what he is going to become. And Thisara Perera is way better than your Jaddu... Malinga is deadly as ever. Kulasekara is always descent. And many other medium fast bowling options. And we have a huge variation in spin bowling attack. Randiv, Mendis, Herath are always improving. Who do you have except Harbhajan? Ohja and Mishra....? They get the treatment they deserve. We saw the gap between the great Murali and Harbhajan in the last series. And keep in mind that Murali is not retired from ODIs or T20s. You guys keep criticizing your own team and at the same time keep saying that yours is better than ours.... Our Bench strength is good enuf too. We managed to Draw series in SL with most of our players Injured, which no team managed in Last 6 years. Talking about Dilshan, Dilshan performed beter than Sehwag only in ODI cricket. Sehwag was never a good ODi player what he is in Tests. Your Dilshan is all Pants in Test cricket. Talking about Mahela, i have never seen him score runs outsiide Sri Lanka with few exceptions. Sangakara is No1 just for few days, Before the sttart of the Test series Sehwag was NO-1. Sangakara is a great Batsman no doubt. If he is NO-1 Sehwag will be No-1 back again. Ther is hardly any diference between them in ratings. Agreed Mathews is a Big thing from Sri Lanka. Talking about Thisara Parera and Jadeja. No one rates Jadeja over here. No pint comparing them. Talking about Malinga and Kulasekra. We have always said you have beter bowling line up compared to us. But if you talk about Malinga, we have Zak too. Talking bout your Spin attack i do agree Randiv is good But Herath and Mendis are as good as Ojha and Mishra. Talking about what treatment Ojha and Mishra gets, well we all can see what Mendis and Herath gets.
