It is understandable that there may be insufficient evidence to place a criminal charge against them, but that is no reason for the ICC not to take stern action as the governing body of cricket. But knowing the ICC and the PCB, I am pretty certain these cheats will be allowed to get away with little or even no punishment.

Another strong reason why PCB officials and ex-cricketers will do everything in their capacity to save the accused players is that many of them have been partners in crimes in the past. A drowning man might take a few more down with him. If say a Salman Butt or a Kamran Akmal actually gets trapped to the extent where his career is finished with a possible few years behind the bars, he might spill a lot more involving senior PCB officials and other cricketers. The English law enforcement could also do what was done to Cronje. Make a deal for more information for lenient punishment. If one of these guys is punished, it could open a Pandora's box. So PCB will do all it can to save the boys.

Basically, this is the deal between PCB & ECB. Both want the series to go ahead for obvious financial reasons. PCB is ready to drop 3 players (Butt, Amir & Asif) on the condition that everybody should spare Kamran Akmal..The Pak team doesn't has any standby Wicket Keeper and there's not much time left to fly in a replacement. So the deal is to 'focus' on the No-Ball issue only in such a way that the 3 players get suspended/dropped from the team and get off lightly. Authorities will not persue any other match-fixing matter. PCB might then take on ICC and thrash out any other deal.

Imran is too smart to miss it. but none of the pakis can afford to lose Ameer from the team.their test bowling will become 50% weak with out Ameer.they dont even mind losing Asif as its almost clear now that he is a gone case for 2 years atleast. but they would do anything to retain Ameer.that is why the innocent 18 year old boy, poor back ground, low salary compared to England cricketers,all blah, blah. the pakis spin machinery and lobbying is on full swing. they will bribe every possible media guy to write supporting them and use all loopholes in the legal system, promise BCCI and Pawar unconditional support for 5 years to ensure Ameer is let off lightly.its another matter that they may assure their loyalty and casting vote for the Aussie-enland-NZ nexus in the ICC elections in future too and convince ECB and expect leniency for Ameer.for his part , Zardari and team would use all their contacts and influence the UK govt to get Ameer a safe passage by agreeing to pay hefty fine and s suspended sentence. salman and Asif are doomed i think.
