What made you fans fall in love with the game?

I would say 1992 WC which was the first time I saw cricket and then actually witnessing Tendulkar's batting display at Wankhede in 1996 WC. I haven't missed one India game except those against SL, Bang. and other "meaningless" matches.:giggle: PLease post about love affair with the game.

I played cricket as a child but never got into watching and following cricket. But when I was 10-11 India came to Oz during the 03/04 tour and I got to see that players.......thats when it really took off.

It was a tri-nation series. We actually lost that match against Aussies, yet progressed to the final having a better NRR than New Zealand.

Probably the B&H WCC in 1985. I was enthralled by Srikkanth and it was probably the first time I saw live cricket on TV. It was the series where Ravi Shastri went to become the Champion of Champions and drove around his Audi in Melbourne. I can still remember Vishy, I think it was sitting on the front of the car. Later reading Sunny's One day Wonders about that and the Sharjah Cup that followed was what got me more closer to the game. Just realised I've following the game now for 25 years:shok:

Playing cricket made me fall in love with it! What a great game it is esp when you are in good form

As far as I can remember, I used to have this small plastic bat which matched my skin color when I was around 2 or 3 years old. In my free time, especially in the afternoons when my parents went to work, my grand father would bowl me these endless amount of balls for several hours just to make sure that I wouldn't cry or feel alone without my parents. I probably didn't know that this bat and ball game would be called "cricket" I probably started watching cricket at a very early age of around 4 But, the craze and the fever of the game really got me when I watched Sachin play at Wankhde in '96. I don't think I have missed any games in which Sachin has played since then. Sachin literally defines cricket for me.

I must have been about ten, was a puny kid and struggled to keep up with the others who played cricket all the time. Was sent in last or close to that and all I could do was try to get an edge on to the ball for through the slips-nicks was the only way I could hit any boundaries. :-( Then one day there was an auction of old cricket gear at school and I bought a cricket bat, pads, gloves and keeping gloves. This made me top cat. Everyone played at my mercy since I had all the gear. It did not make a batsman out of me but the keeping gloves meant I started keeping wickets and I suddenly discovered I had a natural flair for it. But batting was way off. I used to read a lot of books and was a regular subscriber to the Sports and Pastime magazine. This book stall where I went to buy/rent books and pick up my cricket magazine had a regular visitor who was a real cricket buff. He was much older than me and took me under his wings. One day he told me that if I was as serious about the game as I appeared to be, I should join a regular club and introduced me to one of the leading clubs of Delhi, Madras cricket Club and I joined it just before i turned 15. There under a person who I believe was one of India's truly great and unsung coaches, I was well and truly hooked. Still am :-)
