Yeah I was amazed at the clarity of his thought. To my knowledge, he is also an atheist. I am not sure about RSS though. I think RSS's ideology of cultural nationalism i.e hindutva is not cleansing of minorities atleast not in its current avataar

I stopped the video when JA equated rss with kkk. RSS is for the rights of the majority when (p)secular forces want to bend over backwards and handover the rights of the Majority to the minority on a platter. They are fighting for a common civil code which is the basis of secularism, but JA wants to enjoy religious autonomy even at expense of civil law of the land.

I am raised up in a strong RSS/BJP family and I was regular with RSS guys, some really top level leaders as well. Heard them talk about their views on various issues. But they weren't anything what these guys think. Even though I dont follow RSS anymore for past 2 decades, they are dragged too much into this fundo ideology things more often politically rather than in reality. Some followers take it too far. If they had not acted in so much extremes who knows, their political outfit could have gained lot and we would have seen some different governance in our country as well. But thanks to some dumb people in BJP, all we have left now is stupid Congress to rule the country. But in politics they all become the same. My biggest complain to RSS is that despite having great ideology and great people, they failed miserably to change public opinion and materialize that into political mileage to give people and alternative to the ONLY congress party rule. But that wont happen now for foreseeable future. on the OP, what JA said is not totally wrong. Its RSS's failure if they are compared with ML. They din't do anything to change their public image at all.

Naah ... on the contrary untill ABV and LKA in the 80s the RSS was rarely associated with any serious political power. They have always been shy on the political front. The reason why their image has taken a beating is because of the systematic brainwashing for over 50 yrs by the leftwing numbnuts that run the country. It is now fashonable to ridicule RSS. I mean how do super educated folks in the google age boldly proclaim that RSS = Taliban ? Just look at the maharathis that run this phorum for live example.
Bossy, I agree but I will blame it more on people rather than one or political group. We have so many low life, criminal politicians who not only survived their careers but now breeding well and their off springs are taking over. Places like UP, Bihar, MH, WB to name few. They exists because we have uneducated/illeterate voters in our country who have no clue. It is unfortunate to see the way RSS is seen today. Well, things evolve and I am sure something better will emerge and bring some change about.

When roots of the tree hit a rock, it choses to go around it to seek water. A conflict would definitely kill the entire tree. Thats all.

I don't understand why people are commending Javed Akhtar for saying what he did here. 95% of the Muslims I've known - and I would have known and interacted with more Muslims than most on this forum, coming from Lucknow - would have said and felt exactly the same. He just stated some obvious facts and opinions, which the vast majority of Muslims in India would do if you asked them the same questions.

I don't know how one can be secular democratic and not have one common civil law. In India' date=' secularism is confused with appeasment of minorities.[/quote'] I completely agree there should be a uniform civil code, but you can't just wake up one fine day and implement a uniform civil code - that would lead to widespread law and order problems in the country. It has to be discussed, formulated, and implemented gradually with the not so touchy religious issues handled first and gradually moving on to the the really tricky ones (some of them, BTW we had no business creating through the Shah Bano parliamentary overturning of a judicial divorce case).

It always strikes me as fascinating that many of the so called "liberals" would theoretically support a Uniform Civil Code and perhaps even the rescinding of article 370; and yet are vehemently opposed to the only major party that supports both these positions. I can understand that they have their own reservations with the BJP/RSS but maybe they can at least ponder on how our polity has reached this stage that there is ONLY ONE major party (apart from Shiv Sena) - the BJP - that supports Uniform Civil Code which is actually part of the Directive Principles of State Policy in our Constitution, i.e. a long term goal defined in it.

It is never a good idea. Just shows intolerance to different view points. Btw that is the general perception of RSS. I do not agree wih it.

I agree completely. Personally, I also have greater affinity to what RSS ideology represents. They had great orators and leaders, but some of their fringe elements and links with VHP have damaged their reputation, no end. I practically abhor the Cong. party, but seems like we are stuck with it for some time.
