Ranji Trophy 2010-11: Super League

I think the problem with Munaf is that he's limited as a bowler. He can bowl a very good line and be very consistent plus he has a pretty good yorker also. But the problem with him for the past few years is that once the batsmen get used the that wicket to wicket line they can adjust and start attacking more by stepping out of the crease or shuffling across the stumps. In that case Munaf doesn't have the ability to change up and try something different. But it would be hard to leave him out of the SA squad if he keeps putting in these kind of performances.
Yep. Do you think he'll be an asset for India in the bowler-friendly conditions in SA?

True Fontaine...I do remember in an ODI vs SL Sanga jumped down to try hit Munaf off his line but Munaf saw it coming and pitched it short and Sanga popped it for a catch. So maybe he has a plan B ish for times when Batsmen attack him. Not sure he has the variety of test cricket, maybe he can be a 3rd seamer and keep things tight after the new ball bowlers, and you also wonder about his stamina and if he can bowl long spells in tests. He should be in ODI squads for sure.

ROUND UP, DAY 2 Bengal vs Assam Saha, Shukla put Bengal in command Laxmi Ratan Shukla (250) and Wriddhiman Saha (178 not out) put Bengal in a commanding position over Assam. Career-best knocks by Laxmi Ratan Shukla (250) and Wriddhiman Saha (178 not out) put Bengal in a commanding position as the hosts declared their first innings for 562 for six against Assam in their Ranji Trophy Super League at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Resuming at 257 for five, Bengal benefitted most from a Shukla dropped chance behind the stumps on 78 as they made mincemeat of a listless Assam attack on a frustrating second day for the opponents. Shukla was again dropped twice by Assam glovesman Kunal Saikia after completing his century, while Saha got a breather at first slip when on 64 as the two piled on misery for their opponents in a 417-run stand -- all time third highest first-class partnership for the sixth wicket. Batting at No 7, the former Bengal skipper put up a disciplined batting display before demolishing the Assam attack and notched up his best score in his 100th first-class match. Shukla struck three sixes and 35 boundaries in his 481 minute innings from 355 balls, while wicketkeeper-batmsan Saha extended the senior-most Bengal pro perfect support in his knock studded with two sixes and 15 fours (516 minutes, 355 balls). It was some sort of a disappointment for Saha who was denied a double century by 22 runs as Bengal declared their innings after 167 overs. Assam was 10 for no loss at stumps on day two. Bengal skipper Manoj Tiwary did not turn up for the day because of high fever and it remains to be seen whether he takes the field on Friday. Brief Scores: Bengal 1st Innings: 562/6 declared in 167 overs (Laxmi Ratan Shukla 250, Wriddhiman Saha 178). Assam 10 for no loss in 4 overs (Dhiraj Jadhav 10 batting). Delhi vs Gujarat Dhawan's century puts Delhi in control against Gujarat Shikhar Dhawan scored an unbeaten century as Delhi tightened their grip over the Ranji Trophy Super League match against Gujarat at Feroz Shah Kotla ground in Delhi. Dhawan (116) and Yogesh Nagar (69) shared an unconquered 124-run stand for the fourth wicket as Delhi ended the day two at a solid 248 for three. The hosts have taken a huge 177-run lead, after sensationally bowling out Gujarat for 71 on Wednesday. Overnight Delhi batsmen Dhawan and Unmukt Chand (35) had added 60 more runs to yesterday's total when Siddharth Trivedi struck for Gujarat. The paceman had Chand caught behind and few minutes later Ishwar Choudury dealt the second blow to the hosts by dismissing in-from Virat Kohli (6). Choudury was again in action when he scalped the rival skipper Mithun Manhas (7) but success eluded Gujarat after that. Dhawan and Nagar batted superbly from there and took Delhi near the 250-run mark. Dhawan's 116 came off 200 balls with 13 fours while Nagar took 114 balls for his 69, which had eight fours and a six. Brief Scores: Gujarat 1st Innings: 71 all out in 23.4 overs (Niraj Patel 21; Pawan Suyal 4/27, Pradeep Sangwan 3/16, Sumit Narwal 3/23). Delhi 1st Innings: 248 for three in 73 overs. (Shikhar Dhawan batting 116, Yogesh Nagar batting 69, Unmukt Chand 35; Ishwar choudhury 2/64). HP vs Punjab Himachal continues dominating show A splendid batting show on the second consecutive day put Himachal Pradesh in driver's seat in the Ranji Trophy Super League match against Punjab. Resuming at 256 for four, Himachal went on to score a huge 473 before folding as Manvinder Bisla (71), Mukesh Sharma (50) and Kuldeep Diwan (61) struck half-centuries. The hosts then reduced Punjab to 54 for two in their first innings by removing openers -- Ravi Inder Singh (13) and Vishwas Bhalla (15). Uday Kaul (14) and Rahul Sharma (4) were at the crease for the visitors at stumps on day two at HPCA stadium. They are still trailing by 419 runs and would aim to avoid follow-on. Himachal continued the good batting show as both the overnight unbeaten batsmen -- Bisla and Sharma -- completed their fifties and added 100 runs for the fifth wicket. Bisla was the highest scorer for his side with his 71-run knock, coming off in 111 balls with nine shots to the fence. Sarabjit Ladda broke the partnership by trapping Bisla and soon Jaskaran Singh removed Mukesh Sharma but there was no end to the woes of Punjab. Batting at number seven, Kuldeep Diwan struck an impressive 61 and with Rishi Diwan (41) added 89 runs for the seventh wicket. Even the lower order batsmen -- Vikramjit Nalim (19) and Ashok Thakur (21) -- had a ball spending a good time at the crease. Jaskaran Singh was the most successful bowler with three wickets for Punjab. Mumbai vs Railways Mumbai have slight edge over Railways Mumbai enjoyed a slight edge even as young pacer Anureet Singh's five-wicket haul helped Railways bundle out the hosts for just 219 runs on day two of Group A Ranji Trophy Elite Division match. The visitors, restricted to 201 in their first essay, were struggling at 64-3 in the second innings and have an overall lead of just 46 runs. Veterans Sanjay Bangar (19 not out) and Yere Goud (5 not out) were at the crease when stumps were drawn. Earlier, resuming at overnight 42-1, Mumbai's Sahil Kukreja and Ajinkya Rahane began well, adding 77 runs for the second wicket in just over 21 overs. However, Anureet removed Kukreja (50, 126b, 4x5), caught by Vikas Tokas, and Rahane (43, 67b, 4x8), whose timber was disturbed, off consecutive deliveries to trigger a middle- order collapse. Mumbai from a healthy 119-1 slumped to 121-5. Prashant Naik (30), Iqbal Abdullah (29) and Ramesh Powar (36) chipped in to hand over the first innings lead to Mumbai. But Powar's dismissal triggered yet another collapse as the hosts lost four wickets without adding any run. Anureet finished with figures of five for 52, while skipper Murali Karthik supported him well taking three for 73 runs. Tokas and Bangar chipped in with a wicket apiece. Trailing by 18 runs, Railways lost opener V Cheluvuraj (0) to speedster Dhawal Kulkarni. Powar quickly removed M Suresh (28) and T P Singh (5) to hand over the edge to Mumbai. Brief scores: Railways 201 and 64-3 (M Suresh 28; 2-12). Mumbai 219 (S Kukreja 50, A Rahane 43; Anureet Singh 5-52; Murali Karthik 3-73). Baroda vs UP Baroda in command against Uttar Pradesh Ambati Rayudu led from the front with a composed 91 as Baroda scored 309 all out in their first innings on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Super League Group B match against Uttar Pradesh. Kedar Jadhav (66) and opener Jaykishan Kolsawala (58) also struck half-centuries to put the hosts in a commanding position with an overall lead of 119 runs, after bundling out the visitors for a paltry 190 in their first innings on Wednesday. At the close of play, Uttar Pradesh were 25 for no loss, still needing 94 runs to wipe out the first innings deficit. Resuming at their overnight score of 59 for one, Baroda were reduced to a sticky 113 for 4 after losing three wickets in the form of Murtuja Vahora (6), Kolsawala and Yusuf Pathan (15). Medium pacers Bhuvnesh Tyagi and Sudeep Tyagi made good use of the windy condition in the morning session after unseasonal rain lashed the major parts of the city late last night. At 113 for 4, Rayudu and Devdhar came together and stitched together an excellent 147-run partnership to take the hosts total to 260. Rayudu delighted the crowd when he hit two consecutive sixes off spinner Piyush Chawla over long on. Rayudu missed the much-deserved hundred by just nine runs when he was caught by Eklavya Dwivedi off pacer R P Singh at mid on. Rayudu struck 12 fours and two sixes in his 130 balls stay at the crease. For Uttar Pradesh, Bhuvnesh Kumar was the pick of the bowlers, claiming four wickets for 61 runs followed by Praveen Gupta and Sudeep Tyagi (2 wickets each). In the second innings, the visitors started cautiously with openers Tanmay Srivastava (14) and Digvijay Singh (5) avoided taking any risk. The visitors were 25 without loss at stumps. Brief scores: Uttar Pradesh 190 and 25/0 (Tanmay Srivastava 14) Baroda: 1st innings: 309 all out (Ambati Rayudu 91, Kedar Jadhav 66, Bhuvnesh Kumar 4/61 Karnataka vs Haryana Haryana 146/3 after bowling out Karnataka for 222 Both Sanjay Budhwar (5-56) and Joginder Sharma (5-66) took five wickets each to bowl out Karnataka for a mere 222 on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Super League Group B match, here today. In reply to Karnataka's first innings total, Haryana were 146 for three at stumps on day two, with Nitin Saini (57) and Hemang Badani (25) on crease. Veteran seamer Joginder, who exploited the windy conditions to perfection yesterday, to restrict Karnataka to 84 for three before heavy rains drew early curtains to the opening day's play, continued with his fine spell today also, in the able company of fellow pacer Budhwar. Joginder and Budhwar combined together to push the Karnataka batsmen on to the backfoot. Resuming on 84 for three, the overnight Karnataka batsmen -- Robin Uthappa, unbeaten on 36 and Manish Pandey, batting on three, tried to play with caution but Budhwar drew the day's first blood for Haryana by seeing off the former for 48. Budhwar added another wicket to his kitty almost immediately by sending back Amit Verma (1), to leave Karnataka reeling at 105 for five. But skipper R Vinay Kumar stepped in and along with Pandey consolidated the innings. The duo put on a crucial 67-run stand together before Pandey fell for 37 off Joginder's bowling. Vinay Kumar, who on led from the front, however went on to complete his fifty studded with 6 fours and 2 sixes but could not carry on further as Budhwar found his third victim of the day in him. Thereafter, it was just a matter of time before the Karnataka innings folded for 222, with Sunil Joshi (14) and Abhimanyu Mithun (20) playing a cameo. The hosts then also did not began on a great note as they lost opener Rahul Dewan (5) early. But Saini and Sunny Singh did not let that hamper the team as they laid a solid platform for Haryana. The duo shared a 90-run stand together before Sunny fell for a well-made 53. Haryana then lost another wicket in the form of Manav Sharma (1) soon after. Fortunately for Haryana, no more wickets fell on the day before they signed off. TamilNadu vs Saurashtra Mukund, Badri put TN in strong position against Saurashtra Abhinav Mukund smashed a double century while Subramaniam Badrinath scored a ton to help Tamil Nadu finish the second day of their eilte Group A Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra in a commanding position, here today. At stumps on the second day, Tamil Nadu were 483 for the loss of two wickets. Mukund was unbeaten on 217 while Badrinath was giving him company on 142. Resuming at their overnight score of 242 for two, Tamil Nadu continued from where they had left it tomorrow, and finished the day without losing a wicket at the Khandheri Cricket Stadium here. After the dismissal of centurion Arun Karthik yesterday evening, Badrinath joined forces with Mukund to stitch together a huge partnership, which stood unbroken on 280 at close. Mukund was unbeaten on 102 while Badrinath was batting on 18, when stumps were drawn 17 overs earlier on the first day. Both complemented each other well during their stay at the wicket and made the Saurashtra bowlers look ordinary. Neither the pacers nor the seamers could pose questions to the two Tamil Nadu batsmen. Mukund's knock was laced with 25 boundaries and a six while Badrinath hit 14 fours and two sixes during his stay at the wicket. Rakesh Dhurv went for 130 runs in 31 overs, Hardik Rathod was knocked for 65 in 19, Kamlesh Makvana conceded 80 in his 21, while Sandip Maniar gave away 69 in his 18 overs to cap off a bad day for the Saurashtra bowlers. The left-handed Mukund had, on the first day, shared a 194-run partnership for the second wicket with Arun Karthik before Ravindra Jadeja ran the 24-year-old right-hander out for 107.

Rayudu looks a much better player than his FC average of 42 suggests. Good balance and used his feet well against Chawla. Easy on the eyes. Funny moment about Yusuf Pathan. When questioned about the pitch and the approach the batsmen should take, he replied by saying that he would take about half an hour to settle suggesting to be a bit cautious. But when he came to bat, after hitting a couple of fours off Tyagi, one of which was a top edge over the slips, he went ballistic and tried to hit Tyagi for another four. The ball seamed in a bit and caught the inside edge onto the stumps Gone for 15 (9) :headshake: Munaf bowled a very good line and length and troubled the batsmen in the first session of the match and there was a bit of juice in the pitch which helped him out. But his speeds were about low 120's on average. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a skinny and tall youngster with a high arm action. Pace was around mid 120's (122-127km/h) on average. Ignoring the speed, he got good bounce and troubled the batsmen while maintaining a good line. Action is very much like Tyagi, with Tyagi about 5-9 km/h faster than him. When they're bowling in tandem, their build and action are very similar that one gets really confused as to which bowler is bowling. You have to observe quite closely to tell the difference. Remember Ajitesh Argal from the u19 in Singapore the team with Kohli, Abdulla,Sangwan, etc? He looks to have remodeled his action from what I recall from the u19's. Doesnt use the left arm at all in his action and thus falls over and has trouble controlling the line.

It was in Malaysia :P On a serious note, nice summary there Ludhi Ji :hatsoff: I still feel Rayudu can be a good batsman for the future.

TN vs Saurashtra, Day 2 : No stopping Abhinav; Badrinath joins the party More... No stopping Abhinav; Badrinath joins the party Special Correspondent Rajkot: In four years of first class cricket Abhinav Mukund has been compelling to watch as a young, robust batsman with a high measure of skill. At the Khanderi Stadium here on Thursday, the left-hander demonstrated these virtues and admirable powers of concentration to notch up an unbeaten double century (217, 397b, 25x4, 1x6) for Tamil Nadu to post a total of 483 for two in the Super League Group A Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra. Mukund's partner right through the unbroken stand of 280 for the third wicket was S. Badrinath (142 batting, 192b, 14x4, 2x6). The right-handed Abhinav displayed elements of skill, polish and power in his near five-hour tenure in the middle and notched up his 24th first class century. So far this four-day match, that has lost nearly four hours of play due to bad light and rain, has completely drifted in favour of Tamil Nadu after the fall of the first wicket on Wednesday. Lost time It took a little over three hours for the groundstaff to carry out the repair work — removing water from the covers and loose soil around the slip and gully area and the bowler's run-up at one end — and for the umpires to resume the match one hour and 15 minutes after the scheduled lunch time. The umpires made up for the loss of play — 48 minutes on Wednesday and three hours and five minutes on Thursday — by extending the tea break by one hour and the post tea session by one hour. For nearly an hour after the delayed start, Abhinav and Badrinath ambled for singles and twos. But once Badrinath cover drove off-spinner Kamlesh Kamwana and Abhinav directed left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja to the third man fence, there was no stopping the left-right combination. The drives in front of the wicket, cuts and pulls and the powerful flick shots emanated from the blades of Abhinav and Badrinath. The second new ball was taken after the 100th over, but the Saurashtra bowling was punished for 159 runs in 32 overs. With six sessions remaining in the match, Tamil Nadu may still fancy forcing a result. Abhinav has batted for nine hours and 11 minutes and Dinesh Karthik may provide him a chance to go for his second triple century in the first hour on Friday.

Rayudu looks to be back on track which is a good news. Is equally good against pace and spin. Has a very solid defence and is quite nimble against the spinners. The way he negated Chawla through his footwork was very impressive indeed. I hope his ICL past is not given much importance when it comes to considering him for a national spot. If the seniors are not going to be selected for the NZ ODIs, he surely can be one of the options. Dhawan, Mukund, Rahane, Kohli, Rohit, Rayudu, Badri are all looking in good touch and will press for a place in the ODI team vs the kiwis.

Haryana eyeing first innings lead against Karnataka More... Haryana eyeing first innings lead Principal Correspondent LAHLI (ROHTAK): Following the brilliant showing by its seamers, Haryana batsmen were looking to overhaul Karnataka's first innings total of 222 runs in the Ranji Trophy Super League Group B match at the Chaudhary Bansi Lal cricket stadium here on Thursday. Joginder Sharma and Sanjay Badhwar captured five wickets each, while Nitin Saini (57 batting, 164b, 209m, 2x4) and Sunny Singh (53, 86b, 105m, 5x4) put up gritty performances in the home team's quest for the first innings lead. At stumps on day two, the host was 146 for three with Saini and Badani (25) sharing an unbeaten 48-run partnership. Both Joginder and Badhwar made the best use of the morning conditions. Joginder added two more wickets to his kitty to achieve his 15th five-wicket haul in first class cricket. Skipper Vinay Kumar (50, 69b, 102m, 6x4, 2x6) emerged as the top scorer for the visiting side. Karnataka also benefited from the dropped catch of Manish Pandey when he was on six. Haryana batsmen had their task cut out and they succeeded in staying put at the crease. Saini played the sheet-anchor's role well, while Sunny curtailed his big shots to reach his half-century.
