Unsporting Oz athletes vandalises Commonwealth games village New Delhi: Miffed with Australia’s worst series defeat to India in the recently concluded cricket Test series at Bangalore, some Australian athletes destroyed electrical fittings and furniture in their tower in the Games Village on Tuesday and Wednesday. According to a newspaper report, the athletes shouted slogans against Indian ace batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who was named ‘Man of the match’ and ensured India’s victory in the Bangalore match, and tossed a washing machine down from the eighth floor of their tower. According to newspaper sources in Delhi police, this hooliganism by Australian athletes started on Tuesday when Tendulkar scored a double century to force Australia out of the match. Irked by this match-winning performance, they first damaged electrical fittings and fixtures in their block. The report also says that Delhi Police, which received a complaint about this vandalism, has downplayed the incidents to prevent them from growing into a diplomatic embarrassment for Australia. Organising Committee officials, too, have not pursued the matter.

These aussie f**kers must have forgot that they are representing a country at an international event. Sadly, our officials don't have balls to do anything

Is that serious? Those are athletes' date=' if fans/crowd do that, we can understand, but these are athletes. I hope thats not true.[/quote'] Australia slams report of vandalism by its athletes Indo-Asian News Service New Delhi, October 15, 2010 Australia has slammed reports in an Indian newspaper that some of its athletes staying at the Commonwealth Games Village had thrown a washing machine from an eighth floor tower to vent their anger at the defeat of the Australian cricket team by India in Bangalore on Oct 12. The Australian High Commission, in a release here on Friday, said the reports took "sloppy journalism to a new low". "It is factually wrong, insulting to Australia’s athletes and can only be described as a fantasy. It badly lets down a quality newspaper," the release said. The report, quoting sources in the Delhi Police, had said that "enraged by the humiliating loss, some athletes went berserk, destroying electrical fittings and furniture on Tuesday and Wednesday". "They also shouted slogans against batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, who played a pivotal role in ensuring India's victory in the Bangalore match." However, the Australian release admitted "there were indeed some spirited celebrations involving the Australian team and a number of other teams at the athletes village." "We can confirm that in the course of those celebrations a washing machine was damaged, though it remains unclear who did the damage, what their nationality was, and whether it was deliberate or accidental," Australia said. "The suggestion that this was a reaction to Australia’s loss in the second Test is completely baseless," release said. The Australian team’s celebration had nothing to do with cricket, or India, or Sachin Tendulkar, it added. "Indeed Sachin Tendulkar enjoys enormous respect and affection in Australia," the release said. "A recent online poll in Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald voted Sachin Tendulkar the greatest batsman ever. Australians ranked him ahead of Don Bradman which is saying something." At no point of doing the story, did the reporter contact the High Commission or the Australian Commonwealth Games Association to verify the facts, the release said. "One can only speculate what the agenda here is," it added. "Australia sent its biggest team ever to the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. The athletes embraced India and left with wonderful experiences of the people and places that make Delhi the great city that it is," the release said. "Australia is very grateful for the welcoming hand that India has extended," the Australian High Commission statement added. Meanwhile, reports from Sydney said Friday that an Australian athlete was sent home for bad behaviour this week from the Commonwealth Games and a washing machine was dropped from a balcony in the Australian section of the Games Village after the closing ceremony on Thursday. No one was injured in the Thursday incident, Perry Crosswhite, chief executive of the Australia Commonwealth Games Association, said in remarks published Friday. The Sydney Morning Herald quoted him as saying he was disappointed by the incident Thursday night, after the Commonwealth Games concluded with a sparkling closing ceremony in the heart of the Indian capital. "We don't know who did that," Crosswhite told journalists. "Delhi Police came around and they've done an investigation." He also revealed that one athlete was sent home a few days ago for bad behaviour but did not reveal the person's identity. "At the end of the Games, these things happen," Crosswhite said. Australia ended on top of the medals tally in the Oct 3-14 Games. -------------------------------- Think all that cricket angle was imaginary!

Indian media is disgraceful. There are sensationalistic, yellow journalism sections in all world media, but our entire media with one or two notable exceptions is a rag. Nothing, absolutely nothing can be believed from what comes out of our media houses. This isn't just limited to sansanikhej khabrein on TV, but also the print media. The only thing saving them is the close to non existent and very difficult to implement libel laws in India. Just look at the above garbage which they have made up. It is incredulous from the start. Australian athletes shouting slogans against Tendulkar? WTF! Even in the remotest of chances that the Australian athletes were chanting cricket related slogans at the Commonwealth Games against their cricket team, why Tendulkar and not their own team. 'Editor sahab, sansani kisme zyaada aayegi, Tendulkar mein na!' The standard of journalism keeps reaching a new nadir everyday.

Unsporting Australian CWG athletes vandalize after Aussie series loss at Bangalore

New Delhi, Oct 15: Miffed with Australia's worst series defeat to India in the recently concluded cricket Test series at Bangalore, some Australian athletes destroyed electrical fittings and furniture in their tower in the Games Village on Tuesday and Wednesday. According to a newspaper report, the athletes shouted slogans against Indian ace batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who was named 'Man of the match' and ensured India's victory in the Bangalore match, and tossed a washing machine down from the eighth floor of their tower. Meanwhile, it has also been revealed that an Australian athlete has been sent home from the Commonwealth Games in disgrace for late-night partying. There have been accusations of all-night drinking sessions among the some Australian athletes, with some leaving the village at night against team rules. According to newspaper sources in Delhi police, the hooliganism by Australian athletes started on Tuesday when Tendulkar scored a double century to force Australia out of the match. Irked by this match-winning performance, they first damaged electrical fittings and fixtures in their block. The report also says that Delhi Police, which received a complaint about this vandalism, has downplayed the incidents to prevent them from growing into a diplomatic embarrassment for Australia. Meanwhile, confirming these vandalism reports, Australia's Commonwealth Games boss Perry Crosswhite on Friday denied involvement of any Australian athlete in the incident at the Games Village. According to 'Herald Sun', "Crosswhite confirmed that a washing machine was thrown off the eighth floor of an Australian residential tower in the athletes village." However, Crosswhite said he would be surprised if it was an Australian and blamed athletes from other countries who were in the Australian building at the time of the incident. The Delhi Police said it has not received any complaint from the Organising Committee but confirmed the rampage.
It is showing right now on India TV and so cannot confirm. :hysterical: They are saying they threw a washing machine from 8th floor of the CWG games village after Sachin score the double century. :dontknow: http://www.centralchronicle.com/viewnews.asp?articleID=49811
