thevortex Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Vijay and Pujara will miss out practically speaking and given Dhoni's tactics till date. Personally I would retain Pujara in place of Raina for the South African tour. Gambhir obviously comes into the squad in place of Vijay.

King Tendulkar Posted October 13, 2010 Author Posted October 13, 2010 ^I feel Pujara is better then Raina as well!

ViruRulez Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Yeah I would go with that ++ Pujara's handling of bouncers is much better than most Indian youngsters I have seen. He is not at all afraid of playing the bouncer which would be very handy in SA. I would go with him too.
fineleg Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Very impressive to see Pujara handle the chin music (though this was only on Indian pitches, the SA pitches will be very tough). Can we take 17 in Test squad to SA?
saneindian Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Somehow I get the feeling that Dravid might announce his retirement between now and the NZ series. Consider this, a test match at Bangalore his home ground, India wins in an exciting finish, win the series 2-0 and to top it all a young gun who has been seen as his ideal replacement comes in and on his debut plays a knock which would make even Dravid (at his peak) feel proud. RD might go the Nasser Hussain way, saw a young Strauss score and went away quietly. That ways both Raina and Pujara get to stay in the team. Vijay will obviously be there as the reserve opener.

I dont think I will want Dravid to retire just yet .. he is still Mr. Dependable especially overseas such as SA
Fontaine Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Raina is not test calibre. Pujara is untested abroad' date=' not sure how good he is against bounce and seam.[/quote'] I know what you mean, but it's not entirely true. Pujara played extensively in for the Indian A tour team to England this summer against West Indies A, England A (I think), Yorkshire etc and all he did was slam tons, and double tons. Granted it was an A tour but the kid was pretty much the best batsmen on display amongst all the teams there.

Pujara will have to wait for a slot to open up unless Raina falters.

dial_100 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Gambo and dravid given the current form? What kind of strategy is that???? This is not ICF's SuperSelector replacement guys. That you replace to win points. Just understand the world cricket. At least TEST cricket. We need to build the team. If the guy who scored 50+ in 10+ consecutive matches will be dropped because he is little out touch then how will we build the team. For not so important games, drop SRT, VVS or RD. But continue playing, GG, VS, MV at least. As and when, play Pujara and Raina. I will never talk of dropping GG and MV. Vijay has been around for a while. He is gaining good experience. Once he becomes solid, we can always bring in Pujara for Dravid. I dont see RD lasting more than 6 months. But until he retires, he should be in the team as well. Shane 1
