For Test Batsmen, we have a great pool: tendulkar, dravid, laxman, sehwag, gambhir, vijay, pujara, raina, yuvraj, rahane, badrinath, kohli, sharma Thats like 13 choices for 6 spots. Did I miss any names??

I would add Saurabh Tiwary to this list (from an ODI perspective). He is a future batting star for us and one player who is going to win us many many matches.
based on what?.he has one odi where he looked sketchy at best.I have doubts about this guy.

I have seen enough of him in IPL and CL 2010 to be convinced that he is future India material. He may not look the part, but he is certainly of the most effective and determined young batsmen to come out of India in a long time. If he plays as many ODIs as Rohit Sharma has played, he will win us at least half a dozen more matches than Rohit did. This is not to knock down Rohit’s pedigree, but a praise for Tiwary’s potential.

He, like quite a few Indian batsmen, has to sort out some problems with the short ball and has to look at his batting on the leg side and if he improves in these two areas the we've got a future star.

With all the young guns and the prospects I see Yuvraj Singh in all probability can kiss his Test chances good bye. I do not see this dude vastly improving from here on for him to really press for a Test place. When I see the FC scene there a lot of better options than Yuvraj that can serve India for a longer time if one looks at the big picture.
I agree India has too much batting depth. And I think if Raina flops in South Africa he will be dropped and be in a similar situation as Yuvi.

Raina for me was never a permanent..he cannot be a test batsman in no1 team...he has too many problems...today too, he can left that ball he edged to slip....he continuously plays in ODI mode...

Kohli jumps ahead of Raina now. Kohli looks the business and deserves a run, especially if does well in odi games out here and shows good technique, So sticking with 8 brill batsman with Kohli replacing Raina.

For test spot, it has to be Pujara and then hmmmmm.. to be fair enough I would jump to conclusions on Kohli as of now .. let us first check him out in the SA test series before deciding on his talent in all weather conditions.. he has not faced much bouncers and played in ODIs till now .. so need to check him out in SA conditions and how he faces bouncers before judging him completely... but his technique is surely better than Raina but I would still wait and check his performance in SA especially against Steyn and Morkel before commenting .. maybe we can tell the order better after this series.. we cannot even say about Pujara for sure though his technique looks the best amongst all upcoming batsmen .. but I would still wait to see his performance in SA against bouncers before getting fully convinced .. if he passes the SA test with flying colors then Pujara is a must for the team right now in the open slot until the retirement of the legends .. no one else should take that spot if Pujara can pass out the SA test .. only the end of this series will tell the complete scenario... in simple words we want the best 11 with perfect technique and talent to occupy the batting positions and not just any xyz batsmen .. we cannot just keep on testing out random players unless he/she is not world class.. frankly speaking we have not even filled up Dada's spot in the team after all these years .. we are still missing the correct quality replacement for Ganguly and we have tried both UV and Raina in vain
