Look, Fact : Jadeja can bat as seen from his domestic records which is better than Pathan Fact: Jadeja has not done much in batting. But even your IP has not done much in batting. His record shows that. He has been given 4 times as many chances as Jadeja. But more importantly, he was given an opportunity to flourish at no.3 or go batting early on, this is where Pathan got his so called name for his batting. Has Jadeja got any chance to do so? Secondly, one player has been on a decline, rarely plays versus a player who was already decent and is only improving in both batting and bowling. The answer is very simple
Not sure why we debate this when we essentially agree that Jaddu > IP when it comes to selecting a side :hmmm: But with the bat, you can't say Jadeja's not had the chances - he's just not done much at all with them. He's good for approx. run a ball innings' where the pressure's not really on and tuk tuk isnt a bad thing. Not much else. I'm no Irfan apologist but it's fairly clear to me hes far more versatile and effective batsmen, substantial opportunity or not.

I was not one who started the Jadeja vs IP as my point was simply IP does not deserve to anywhere near the team with his lack of form and match practice. Yet, still there are tons of support for him from people demanding him to be back in the team asap instead of Jadeja. Please kindly explain that!!!!!! Jadeja has not had a fair chance with a bat, there is no reason to argue with that, as we rarely have given him chance to bat up the order like what we did with Pathan at the same stage. This is the first point. And the second point is his batting is not good, he has only scored 5 half centuries in 110 vs 4 of Jadeja despite IP getting more chances.!!!!!!!

Irfan is a crap bowler. He will get smoked if he bowls in subcontinent conditions. The only place be might he successful is England with cloud cover, else he is a cannon fodder He is a decent batsman, but he cant replace anyone @ Top 7 Guys like Sehwag, Yuvraj and Raina will have better bowling figures than him, anyday so, why waste a spot for him

Jadeja has hit the domestic circuit, at first, as a promising batsman who was all set to become a specialist batsman for international stage. But, ended up as a bowler who can bat a bit. It was sad to see him batting, even lower than Vriddiman Saha in the recent Challenger cup ( 6 down or 7 down inthe batting order). Same is the case with Irfan pathan; who had lost his bowling midas touch midway of his career and is somewhat mproved his batting credentials. If Dhoni wants to persist with Jadeja (which looks right at the moment since there are no other better contenders), why can't he let Jadeja bat at No. 3 or 4 and a let better hitters like Kohli or Raina bat down the order (for the sake of team's cause).. For Irfan, sorry mate, may be, with your current performance (with a 130KPH bowling and an ability to score quick 20-30 runs ), you might deserve a chance in the current ODI squad. But we are expecting a bit from you bowlingwise.. You are still young and you can improve.. Work on your bowling and the team's door is open for you (No Dhoni or Srikant can be a impediment for you if you can be at least close to old Irfan the bowler)

He's the closest thing we have to call an 'allrounder'. He can slog. He can bowl better than a part timer. And almost everyone (especially our bowlers) are shyte in subcont. conditions.

Its better to have a proper batsman or a bowler than this version of an allrounder Whatever I have seen of him last in Intl. cricket, he cannot be better than any of our part time spin options, specially in India. Yeah, All our bowlers are shyte, but doesnt mean we make it lot more worse with him in the team

It is laughable that we are comparing RJ and IKP. Does anyone think Jadeja can come in at no 3 in a test and make 40+ versus Johnson, Lee, Tait and Clark? IS he capable of a test match century or a hat trick? Lest we forget Irfan was MotM in our best away win in a test match in recent years. There was a time under Greg when India were in red hot ODI form and Irfan was the best all rounder in the world, albeit very briefly. A quality natural swing bowler and good batsman. he had a good ranji season last year and hopefully will be back. He used to keep pitching it short and wide far too often and get smashed, just needs to stick to the basics keep it tight and he can be so good. Unfortunetly also he is far more reliant on conditions he bowls in that most, even more so than our other pacers. Both him and Kaif have been more unlucky rather than lack of quality on their part http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=180189&highlight=Kaif re: Kaif^^^. That is old but still hold true. He did not have a great Ranji season, but was in cracking form in the Duleep trophy incl a ton vs a strong South Zone. In fact he should have made the test squad vs SAffies last year instead of Rohit.

if the comparison is between irfan and jadeja. i would certainly go with Irfan he would get smacked but who has been spared? sreesanth, ishanth have the worst figures too. zaheer and to an extent nehra and pk are the decent bowlers we have and we are still struggling to find a back up bowler incase one of these gets injured.

Pathan ... he's the only genuine all-rounder spot pretender / contender currently on the scene. Jadeja ... I'm quite disappointed with his batting performance, too many times he has choked when it was hoped he would perform. True, Pathan was given good time when he was in, but I think with Jadeja not exactly proving to be a Kapil Dev reincarnate, it is time to bring back Irfan and let him lose for a few matches and see where he stands. You just don't dump someone like Irfan totally. It is his loss, but more so the team's. And then my personal bias, I prefer fast/medium bowling all rounders more than spin bowling allrounders. We already have Sehwag, Yuseless, Raina, and Kohli for that.

Scenario 1: IRFAN PATHAN is at the crease and India is on the verge of losing by a huge margin. We all know that he is not going to win the game but I would still watch it for a ray of hope Scenario 2: Ravi Jadeja is at the crease under the same circumstances as Scenario 1, I would turn off my TV! The lesson to be learned - Pathan is more reliable than Jadeja anyday. For me Pathan has won us more games than otherwise! Jaddu has rarely won us games. Pathan is fit enough for the international standards while Jaddu can't even pass the inner circle leave apart hitting sixes when needed. Bowling wise, Pathan is way better than Jaddu. The only person who can swing the ball better than Pathan in the current Indian cricket roster is Praveen Kumar. I would rather play Piyush Chawla over Jaddu. Piyush is a specialist spinner while a handy batter.

Jadeja does not even seem to be Hrishikesh Kanitkar's reincarnate :giggle: Baffling how selectors pick him and then MSD selects him for match after match :banghead:

Do you really think Jadeja would do a job coming in at 3 for India? Do you think he has the strokes, the technique or the power to score quick runs? The 4 half centuries he has scored- 2 were agst Zim, one vs SL when we got walloped, the other vs Aus off like a 100 balls when we were bowled out for 170-odd and he had that stand with Kumar. Like I asked before, if Jadeja was sent at no3 in a test vs Johnson, Tait, Lee and Clark, would you back him to score 40-odd. Irfan started life as a bowler, and only developed his batting much later- probably to the detriment of his bowling; So to say he has 100+ oppos may not make it a fair comparision

Pathan got a test hundred, opened the batting and made 93, defended Mcgrath & Co for 4 hours in a test match to score a 50, won man of the match in perth test, T20 final. And we are comparing him with a useless player like Jaddu.. cricket illiterates.

Fact no 1: To show any talent, you need opportunities. IP got them and has only done well in some. The shocking thing is that for some reason, you all seem to think that he is a batting god and is a natural batsman. This is completely untrue as he has done his fair share of failures which everyone seems to be talking only about Jadeja. And, it is not like Jadeja has not made any kind of impact with his batting, he has already have some 50s like IP but none of you seem to recognize that while at the same time point to the master batting performances of IP which are few to remember while recgonizing nothing of Jadeja. That is the first point and secondly, why does he deserve the chance? Has he been playing cricket? You all seem to think "potential" and therefore regrettably think he should be given more opportunities. While it is totally different for Jadeja where most of you are still living and making judgements based on 1-2 bad performances. IP is no magic with the bat and definitely a liability in bowling coming together with poor form and little match practise. So why exactly do people defend him???

Jaddu can contain and get the odd wicket. Pathan leaks runs and takes no wickets, instead burst the balloon of pressure applied by the bowler at the other end.Having said that, his batting is the same as Jaddu. So in my opinion its better not to give him a chance for the upcoming WC.Jaddu is tried and tested, and he has done better than Pathan in the limited opportunities he has got.Its sad that we have to contain with Jaddu, this shows lack of all rounders in our country, we have a pool of 30 players to chose from, but when it comes to all rounders, we just have a choice between the Pathan Bandhus and Jaddu.

Agree that he has been given very less chances as compared to Jaddu but still i wouldn't want pathan in the side. In fact i wouldn't take Jaddu in the playing XI.But the fact of the matter is that MSD and se;lectors will go with Jaddu in the playing XI :((

Pathan is the bloke who turned CSK's fortunes around :cantstop: The way he inspired tuk-tuk Dhoni to go berserk shows what he can do as a bowler. I dont want him to cause the same damage playing for India, like he did for Queens XI. He is perfectly capable of dishing out such crap on a consistent basis. :--D If Dhoni is smart, he will make use of guys like Sachin, Sehwag, Yuvraj and Raina to fill in 15-20 overs every match. Rotate them smartly, run through some middle overs with these guys, rather than playing such fit for nothing (so called) allrounders in the side

Pathan is better bat than jaddu, but we need someone who can bowl 10 overs consistently for no7 considering the inconistency of our pacers in LOIs, so Jaddu or Ashwin is better option than Pathan

Never claimed he is a world class bat, just that as a batter -he is far better than Jadeja is, since we are makng a comparision here. I like Jadeja as an ODI bowler- great for 10 tight overs and he should be a regular in our one day lineup. But he is not a good ODI batsman, all the 50's you point to were not exactly great innings. As I said earlier, Irfan had a good Ranji season last year with bat and ball (though perhaps not enough to get him an India spot ) he had been unlucky since with injuries and can build on it now hopefully. No one in their right minds is suggesting he play for India as soon as he is fit (if he still injured) or play for India vs NZ or SA. He needs to prove he has his form back- hopefully he can over the next few months. If Irfan can prove he can still bowl well in one dayers, he should play.
