Tennis world was ruled by Sampras, Beckers etc in 98, F1 perhaps Prost/Senna, Football: Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Zidanne etc... 2010 Tennis, no Sampras, no Becker, F1 no Senna etc... in Football No Ronaldo, no Zidane Cricket 1998 or 2010, God is there.

He was not used to playing upper cuts those days. He would pull anything remotely short. Straight drive is still the same as 20 years back.

Sachinism Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 v2010 for me. He just looks technically perfect, just looks like he can bat there all day. I do miss some of the attacking, dismissive shots. Nowadays he has to hoick the ball a bit to clear the boundaries, not as pretty, but still as effective, if not more.

His runs in 2010 have contributed to India's victorymore than in 98. So I vote 2010. How's Sachin accountable for the losses back then (in 98)? Your reasoning for siding with the Sachin of 2010 is just plain wrong in this sense!

Not only no Sampras, player who ruled Tennis world after Sampras is already on his way down (Federer) and no longer preeminent force. Also Tendulkar was already world beater by the time Sampras became one. It souds cliched but his longevity has been simply amazing and beyond comparison. Interstingly, this (longevity) could be one solid point for champions of cause "Sachin greater than Bradman". The way Bradman was so much ahead of his peers in terms of batting averages, Sachin is peerless if you take years at top (I mean absolute top) as one of the parameters.

satishg Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 98 were the days when i actually fell in love with his batting..i wanted him to score 100 after 100 in every innings, score the winning runs and let out a roar as he did against Australia earlier this month, break the ODI record and every damn thing that a God can do with bat in his hand. Although these things are happening after 12 years, the excitement i got on watching SRT play in 1998 is unparalleled. Given a chance i would love to go back to those days just to watch Sachin bat!

sandeep Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Tendy circa 1998 would never have given our large-hearted brethren chances to give him chances :winky: That's the one thing that you young uns didnt get a chance to fully appreciate. The absolute dominance coupled with solidity that Tendy would display regularly - regardless of pitch, match situation, opposition bowling quality etc. He would regularly walk in at 30/2 or 3 down, and middle almost everything from the 1st ball. These days, he only looks as solid and fluent once every few games. He's still damn good, but he doesn't have that consistent invulnerable aura of dominance anymore. FBM's post about how SRT of today effortlessly switches gears and batting approaches is very astute - something that Tendy is achieving in spite of some fade-away of his pure skills. But to have seen him bat in his pomp, man the guy was (is!!) something else. We are truly a lucky generation of cricket fans to have been around in the Sachin era.

Whenever he walked in (talking about Test match), he will go for his shots, once he played a bad shot or drop catch, he will totally settle down to play big. If you see his dominance against Aussies that particular year. he did give chances. Even that sharjah knocks he had french cut that went for four, he had pull shot landing at no mans land.
