There is a reason companies pay Analysts huge sums of money to make sense of data and numbers. Otherwise these are the kind of conclusions which are formed when laymen try to make sense of a bunch of numbers they happen to have acess to

Sachin averages 0 in tests against South Africa in South Africa when O Henry is playing in the 2nd innings played on the 3rd day of the 3rd test of a 4 match test series played in the last week of the year before 1994 and after 1991... How is he not the worst player in the world?

I'm not saying he is not a great player but some fans on this forum claim he is the greatest batsman of all time. Surely this is the biggest weakness in his record. Glenn McGrath may have got Brian Lara out a ridiculous amount of times but Lara still averaged 45 against an australia side featuring McGrath (3rd highest average of any batsman facing an Aussie side with McGrath playing).

Again this is why cricketing logic and game situation surpasses throwing up of stats for proving a point. Now Lara has failed lot more time than he succeeded against Aus. esp. in Aus. So, if batsman scores 80,0,0,100 in 4 innings even then his average will be 45. But the question is whether those two ducks cost the match. Imran Khan is lucky to make the second team if he did. Great player. But when you have Miller and Sobers ahead of you, you really are not even in the race.

What if in those matches Sachin was playing McGrath easily and got out to a full toss from some no name bowler? Or he was actually run out. Or he was given out because the umpire made a howler? Just quoting an average when X bowler was playing does not mean that the average was CAUSED by that bowler. Some of the best innings Sachin played has been against Donald, Ambrose and McGrath in extremely difficult situations.

Imran Khan is the one of the most overrated player of all time, his batting was putrid compared to Botham and Kapil dev, for him to make world second XI is joke.

Imran Khan is the one of the most overrated player of all time' date=' his batting was putrid compared to Botham and Kapil dev, for him to make world second XI is joke.[/quote'] Concur. But for ball tampering this guy would not have taken half the wickets that he had taken on those patta Pakistan wickets.

You believe Sehwag makes a stronger case than Len Hutton' date=' Jack Hobbs, Sunny Gavaskar, Barry Richards, etc? Each one of them are light years ahead of him. No doubts about the bolded part though.[/quote'] Only SMG was better.......Go check what opposition and what bowling Hutton and Hobbs played. Barry Richards played only a handful of test matches. The english are a very biased race.........followed closely by the aussies. No Mcgrath in either teams........another joke and no Sunil Gavaskar, Please tell me how many runs did Hutton or Hobbs scored againist good spinners on turning tracks. We all know what happens to english or aussie batsman when they face subcontinental spinners in asia. Lille over Imran or Hadlee is another joke.... They have tried to fill the teams with aussies and englishmen of pre 1950 era.....No Hadlee or Mcgrath in either teams..........what sort of joke is this? and why 2 spinners in the 2nd 11?Just to fit in Bill o Reilley????? Someone give me a reason why bowlers like Ambrose or Walsh wouldnt make a team ahead of Trueman or Barnes or Reilley. Pathetic

Had SRT not done too well in Aus and Eng would he have been picked ? I doubt it. This is the problem with these "Experts". There is no sense of fairness nor there is any rhyme and reason.
True, in the end it always boils down to personal preferences and prejudices

Mcgrath is one bowler who have proved on all kind of surfaces something Lillee could not do.
Here is something about Lillee -- all the people who have played against him go ga-ga about him. Not players before him, not players since then. The whole jury was people who have either played him or know him closely I guess. As somebody pointed out -- he was a heavy weight in Aus and almost a zero in the few games on the sub continent. Yes it is stupid to have him over McGrath. But to me it should have been Marshall and Ambrose ! Simple as that. In fact if you really wanted to follow the quota rules -- they should have picked Hadlee

I think Imran khan should have been picked :--D
Selection Panel knew that Soda bottles have plastic caps these days, so he would be quite in -effective.

It is a joke that SRT's choice was not unanimous. Hobbs and Hutton vs modern day openers is a total joke. SMG should be in the first list. Also tell me how SRT is the 4th best cricketer after Sobers and Warne. I mean this dude has scored in all formats of the game and in all conditions in all countries. Warne got walloped in India. Geez!
