Ok, its pretty obvious now.. This guy’s a phony. Firstly, his big story about he was approached by a shady man who wanted him to fix matches else face the consequences is so flimsy. Just look at what he has to say; "

That story has FAKE written ALL OVER it. First of all, look at how he gives no details whatsoever and you cannot either verify or prove to be false, anything of what he says.. That itself shows he just made that up over a midnight’s sleep.

Secondly, even if say his story about some guy approaching does ring out to be true, you don’t flee a country at the first instance of someone threatening you. For all you know, it could all be a practical joke. Besides, the match fixers are such bad people after all. If you don’t believe that, ask guys like Butt, Asif and Aamir. They’re best buddies with them. They go to parties with them, exchange money and even have midnight phone conversations. And I don’t think we have ever seen cases where the match-fixers target the players’ families. He says his family received threats and wants them to come to the UK as well, which pretty much seals the case in terms of revealing his true intentions – Flee to the UK, seek asylum and bring his family over. Haider probably thought this was his best chance to flee Pakistan because his whole story about him being approached by dangerous guys who wanted him to fix matches will ring true, especially in this particular passage of time, given all that has happened in Pakistan’s recent history. Either Haider is a genuinely nice guy who’s simply disgusted with the inner happening of the Pakistani team and wants to flee Pakistan using the excuse of match-fixing threats (or), he simply thinks he has little future in Pakistan cricket and this is probably his best chance to flee to the UK and make a living out there playing club cricket. Either ways, this is another massive embarrassment for the Pakistani establishment. They have enough problems to handle already, they don’t need a deserter jettisoning his team midway in a tour and fleeing to another country. This makes them look even more bad. I guess, at least to save face, they will come out in the open dismissing Haider’s story and essentially wash their hands off him.

I mean you see U Akmal after team photo before the game, with his keeping gloves on. Sticks his tongue out to camera and does big cheeky smile. It was like Hanibal in the A team. As much as I would love to make fun of pak cricket, i am starting to feel sorry for their players. Retiring at the age of 24 out of fear is a sad story in any cricketers life. You work so hard for nothing because you and your family are in danger! Sad really, SAD ... The traditional route will be a loooooong drawn process that might take years.. If you get asylum, things are lot more fast-tracked. I am not sure how this exactly works in the UK, but if you generally get asylum in a country, then the state will support you economically. Besides, I don’t think you can bring your entire family over if you there as an overseas player. Notice how he’s conjured up these stories about his family has received threats as well?

No, this suspension is for the breach of his contract rules. A player cannot simply desert his team and run away without seeking prior permission.
