I always thought it'd be the other way round, his accuracy and control make him a good ODI bowler. He can be a useful 3rd seamer in test cricket if he could bowl long accurate spells but dosent quite have the nous and variety to prise out batsmen in Test cricket does he? Let alone the pace...

Let alone the pace...[/quote'] Munaf is an unfit sod. He is prone to the odd stiff spell where he is completely incapable of bowling vaguely accurately or with any bite. That can go unnoticed in a Test. In a low scoring ODI, that can be absolutely fatal. That is my thought process. Moreover, in Tests, he bowls at 135kph up to 140kph. In ODIs, he concentrates on accuracy and bowls at 125kph. This may be necessary, I'm sure Munaf understands his own game, but it means he is always less likely to take wickets. As for having the nous or variety to take wickets, I simply disagree. No pace bowler bowls accurately for long periods of time, at over 130kph and does not pick up wickets - it is simply not the case - especially keeping in mind that Munaf is doing very well in domestic cricket. Baroda probably wanted the other pace bowlers to take the lead as they will be without Munaf for the semi final. Oh yes, that is 99.9% likely, I'm just being super optimistic.

Was 20 i think when he was discovered and started playing pro, by then most young pacemen have played at least one season of FC cricket and U19 cricket. So he is not going to be naturally the fittest.

So he is not going to be naturally the fittest.[/quote'] but he does not have anything going for him to be selected..he bowls at 120 ks or less most of the time..tries bowl like mcgrath but he is no mcgrath...he cannot handle any pressure when batsmen go after him...

Just ruthless hitting.So I d give him another chance in ODIs to show his worth, and if he fails, down he goes in the list of probables.
singhprakash72 Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I think munaf is more suited for Test setup were he can keep bowling a nagging line outside the off stump albeit at 120 Kph...people talk about comparison with McGrath but remember McGrath used steep bounce and seam to get most batsman out...I doubt Munaf can do that ...but he is still better than trying total unknowns like we tried in 1st test @ SA.
