vamos_rafa Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 he is not an Irfan with the bat either...Pathan is way above him in terms of batting ability What I meant was that we should not lose his bowling, which is far more important, as a barter to his batting. We already have lost one very good prospect in Irfan and can't afford another such lossl.
dial_100 Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 It doesn’t work that way. Its important that we don’t get too dazzled by Bhajji’s strokeplay on frankly' date=' some of the flattest pitches you will encounter anywhere in the world. At the end of the day, he’s a bowler with batting abilities. You cannot trust him with with the all important no.6 position.[/quote'] Of course it does. Remember Cape Town test? We lost it not because we weren't good enough. We lost because we didn;t have the 3rd and 4th bowling option. Part timers, that too spinners in South Africa are useless on 4th or 5th day. Srisanth was ineffective and Munna was injured. We lost the test despite tight bowling from Kumble on 1 end. The other end was lose. If we play 4 fast bowlers and Bhajji as 6 down batsman and a bowler, we could put pressure on them. After quick 3-4 wkts, our 1st and 2nd change is not effective and that is what was costing us lot.
coffee_rules Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 No, he can be #6 bowler with his batting a plus.
dial_100 Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 Guys, the point here is that we should start leveraging our in-form batting upto top 5 down. We are #1 for god sake. It is time to be bit bold. We lack the top bowling options. We should provide something extra and different. And I am damn serious on this option.
dial_100 Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 No' date=' he can be #6 bowler with his batting a plus.[/quote'] May be. We play 1 batsman short. Put more pressure on our 6 batsmen.
jusarrived Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 taking 20 wickets won be a problem in SA . The need for 5 bowlers is on flat pitches ,
Rahul48 Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Harbhajan got to play a major role in SA.His away record is awful. This is a high profile series for him to lift the game.
Sachin=GOD Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Bhajji is not that good a batsman to be given the #6 and more importantly, from the batting line-up mentioned in the start of this thread, we cannot under any circumstances drop any of them even if we need an extra bowler.
dial_100 Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 Of course taking 20 wickets is big problem on the fast pitches. If 1 bowler is ineffective then that leaves only two main bowlers. That is lot of pressure. You cant expect your main bowler to bowl more than 30 overs. I am looking for Irfan Pathan type of option. SA had two options in Kallis and Pollock. Even now, Kallis is too good of a batsman who can be effective bowler as well. I am not saying that Bhajji is #6 for long run but for this series, should we try 1 less batsman and play top in-form batsman and play extra bowler.

The team most likely would be Sehwag, Gambhir, Dravid, Sachin, Laxman, Dhoni, Harbhajan, Zaheer, Ishant, Sreesanth and then there would be competion for that 1 remaining spot-whether that goes to a batsman or bowler is to be seen.

Imagine the Strike Rates and the Beastly way the bowlers will be slaughtered. GG Viru Raina Yousoup Yuvraj Mashaalaz wat a line up, we will outscore their Strike Rates, Finish the test in half a day and play more tests as a result. Wat efficiency!
jusarrived Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 if the pitch has assistance 4 pace bowlers should be an option , as I cant really see Harbajan of being any use in SA Zaheer, Ishnat , Sree & Umesh :yay:
Bumblebee Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 My team in SA GG Viru Dravid Sachin pujara laxman Dhoni Bhajji Zak Ishant Sree

On a serious note..Seeing Umesh in the line-up for an all important test series does make me cringe a little..:--D..
Hindustani Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 NO, Bhajji is still unpredictable, Dhoni should be #7, Bhajji should be 8
