How did Parthiv make it back to the Indian team?

So KKD completely overlooked. Is Srikanth trying to appease a few online forum members by showing there is no Southie-bias? Indian selection really is like picking names out of a hat

KKD's time will again come. But safe to say Parthiv Patel has earned his place by performing really well on the domestic circuit over the last 5 years. In a already decided series versus a mediocre opponent it is fine the warriors on the domestic circuit are rewarded and get a shot at the international opposition.

Parthiv is much better than people give him credit for. He is pretty unlucky that he’s born in the same era as MSD. Else, I am pretty sure he’d have had 80-90 test career already by now, assuming his keeping held up. But from a batting perspective, he has a wonderful, compact technique and a solid temperament. Karthik is probably the most talented of keeper-batsmen out there, but he’s simply too erratic. Its ok to be inconsistent, 1, even 2 years into your international career. But he’s been playing international cricket for almost 5-6 years now, yet you dont get the sense that his game has evolved or matured over the time. He still plays the same miscalcuated shots. Contrast that to someone like Raina, who made his international debut pretty much around the same time and he has grown to be the mainstay of the Indian ODI/T20 team or even someone like Kohli, who has grown tremendously in stature just in the last 1 year alone. But Wriddhiman Saha shouldn’t be within one light year of the ODI team. How he got the nod ahead of guys like KKD and Parthiv is beyond me.

Err, perhaps he has performed better than PaPa in the domestics for starters? :hmmm: And was pretty impressive behind the stumps too.

some of us have been very harsh on Parthiv , agreed he had a couple of bad series with the gloves ...but two things wer obvious , he was pretty decent with the bat & was a natural with keeping ...if hes improved his keeping skills , its not a bad choice imo DK has had more chances than hes deserved .

PaPa's keeping has got worse. His keeping in the Mumbai Ranji match was hillarious to say the least. But he has piled on the runs during the last few domestic seasons. Lets see what he does in the chances he gets. IMO DK was still the best choice we had got especially for a series like SA. Batted beautifully the last time we went there, that alone should have kept him in the side. Poor guy, did everything the team management asked of him and yet after 2-3 failures gets kicked out of the team and has now lost the confidence and is struggling in ranji trophy badly. Multi dimensional players like him need to be given a longer rope which unfortunately hasn't happened for DK.

DK is probably the talented bat amongst the lot (including Dhoni), on his day he can succeed against the best of the attacks in the toughest of the conditions, but his inconsistency might have caused selectors to move on and try out other wk bats. I do agree with you though, he has got the technique to play in SA conditions, and should've been considered.

Err' date=' perhaps he has performed better than PaPa in the domestics for starters? :hmmm: And was pretty impressive behind the stumps too.[/quote'] Possibly. I havent been following FC cricket so I wouldn’t know. But I have seen Parthiv play and he’s an extremely capable player, although he’s more suited to the test format than the T20/ODI format.

KKD was given chances, he failed to cement his place. The thing is there is no standout keeper-batsman in India (incl Dhoni). While KKD is talented, he messes up at important times.
