Chandan Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Terrific thread Shwetabh! We have only 24 bowlers in the history of cricket with 300+ wickets but some bowlers have certainly diluted this club. I'll go with Vettori, even if he doesn't have a partner who can support him and so on. I've never heard Vettori ripping through batting line ups like very quality bowler is supposed to do, at least once in a while. Likewise we can have a thread for 8000+ or 9000+ run getter club too.
vvvslaxman Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 I won't put Harbhie there. Say what you want. He was a top performer against one of the all time great team. Since 2000 Harbie has picked 88 wcikets in 15 tests against them. 14 ahead of Kumble. http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;filter=advanced;opposition=2;orderby=wickets;spanmax1=31+Dec+2010;spanmin1=01+Jan+2000;spanval1=span;template=results;type=bowling
vamos_rafa Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Vettori was once a miserly and an intelligent bowler. People here have been over critical of him. I remember he did trouble Sachin a few times as well. He was not that bad when he started out. But the NZ team has been so mediocre that it has taken its toll on his bowling now. He used to attack the batsmen but now all he does is the job of containing. Maybe with him being the spinnr and NZ's demise in Test cricket has made him so. Kapil Dev would also fall in that list IMO. The fact remains that he stretched his career for so long just to get to that record. It was a shame to see him bowl in the late 80's and early 90's but he kept on playing. And his refusal to bowl that final over in the Hero Cup Semi final against SA proved how much confidence he had on his bowling. The job was left to an 18 year old. Vaas, though he was the lone SL pace bowling survivor but he was barely above average. Though he did pick up wickets in SL but I would like to see his records against better teams. Could anyone help me out with that?? I think bowling alongside Murali also helped him a bit. And lastly Bhajji. Well no comments really.
saneindian Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 There are millions of cricket fans who will give up everything just to play one international match leave alone picking up a wicket, catch or scoring a run!! And here we are, ridiculing people who have taken 300 test wickets as if taking those wickets is a joke and they got to the landmark due to the benevolence of the opposition batsmen!!
Sachin=GOD Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 ridiculous thread.. seems we running outta things to discuss? well said.
f.b.m Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Vettori and Lee. Bhajji and Ntini at least were deadly in home conditions every now and again and won matches single handedly.

By the way looking at the votes even on a Indian cricket forum Harbhajan is the leading vote getter for being the worst of the 300 club which tells what majority in the cricket world thinks of him. If we have the same sort of a thread for the 8000 plus batting club the Colombo specialist Mahela Jayawardane will win it hands down for being the kind of flat track bully he is for most part. What this guy averages in the low 30's in both Austraila and SA or something like that?

Thats more than what some others have done. And after a year or so, Samaraweera will join the 5000 club. Imagine that!
Cricket_Guru Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Lee was is will be amazing! cant believe it you people rank him in this category!

zen Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 I would keep Vettori out of this list as he is more of a stock bowler than one of the strike bowlers for NZ. On top of that he gets to play his home matches in NZ which traditionally is good for quicks .... While the other 4 played more often than not as one of the strike bowlers.
punjabi_khota Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Make 10,000 + run thread, and name Dravid the worst batsmen in that club :rotfl:
King Tendulkar Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Make 10' date='000 + run thread, and name Dravid the worst batsmen in that club :rotfl:[/quote'] Exactly a thread like that would be as daft as a thread like this! Is this some strange attempt to have a blast at bhaji?:giggle: I am tempted to do a thread about who is worst batsman in 11950 + runs club:punter:
King Tendulkar Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Harbhajan' date=' the worst of the lot :hehe:[/quote'] Can I ask you a question. Who do you support when India play Australia?
