dial_100 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Yup people are being bought in by these BS comments from SA. They've been playing mind games since well before the tour started. On top of that they've done everything they could do get fast, bouncy pitches, just shows you how much they fear our team. But Sachin should have known if our top order didn't last long against Steyn & Morkel, then Sree and Jaidev have very little hope. I would just have loved to see some attacking shots and just make SA bat again Oh year. For that you have 4 attacking batsman. What did they do??? We have accepted the fact long time ago that VVS, RD and SRT are there for anchoring the innings. Why the heck it matters when your #5 and #6 did not score grand total of 20 runs in 2 innings each and you stupid bowlers couldnot take more than 4 wickets, you find yet another thing against SRT that hey did not score fast or farm the tailenders. Load of bs guys. More and more are sounding non-icf here.

But you're point here doesn't make sense. #5 and #6 were already out, so no point in discussing them. Sachin was telling with #10 and #11. Even if the game was lost, I just wanted to see Sachin have a go at Steyn and Morkel, by exposing the tail we really didn't achieve anything, coz even if the tactic succeeded, how many would we have got? Not anything that would worry SA if they had to bat again.
dhillon28 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 In related news' date=' Tendulkar bought champagne and dinner for the entire team after he was able to get maintain his average at 56.91 instead of 56.70 by virtue of staying not out.[/quote'] or maybe he was rotating the strike because in recent history of 'few wickets remaining resistance' involving one top order batsmen and tailenders has involved constant rotation of strike. e.g. India vs Aus 2010 Mohali Laxman didnt hesitate to rotate the strike with Ishant. In fact during the Laxman-Ishant partnership, Ishant faced 70% of deliveries. Laxman only started farming when we were about 8 runs away from victory and he knew he could finish the game with two strikes Aus vs India 2008 Sydney Tendulkar batting with Bhaji......Bhaji went on to get 60 odd (the first innings that showed he really had batting potential against top quality oppostion) and this was only possible because Sachin didnt rotate the strike. Aus vs Pak 2010 Sydney Hussey and Siddle win the game needed 70 runs with one wicket left.....why? because of strike rotation. So maybe tendulkar was rotating the strike as therein lay indias highest probabilty of success. Also farming the strike is almost impossible as all it takes is on the 6th ball for the bowler to bowl a bouncer that is slightly wide and slightly too high and eventually the tailender will face.......and if until then you farm him, it just adds more psychological pressure to his task.

Not anything that would worry SA if they had to bat again. To make a game out of it, we had to bat at least until midway through tea. Even if we had scored 150, SA would have easily scored those anyway but point is if we had to stay there until another full 50 overs, #10 and #11 had to bat. You cannot shield them for 50 overs. They had to face Dale and Morne. So they did and succumb. They didn't last more than couple of overs. Unless you have a confidence that the other end is secured, you cann't go for kill. That type of game is for Sehwag. Watch Dhoni these days, he hardly plays aggressive. He suck at times. Why aint blaming it on Bhajji and Dhoni. They should have lasted at least until lunch. We would have scored some 200+ and easily saved the game. Its like saying that you have only 1 leg and we want you to try and run fast as you can. :woot: Chill guys.
Ram Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Sriram.....only time can tell when the game will be over, not you or me. Did Laxman quit at the Garden against the aussies? or in mohali this year? Did Tendulkar himself quit in that desert storm innings? There is NO such thing as NO chance of not losing. Look at the greatest comebacks of all time and you'll notice that people made the absolute best of what they had and gave it their best shot. I personally think Tendulkar gave up a little too early, and I would love to hear what his approach was. There's an interesting story Harsha Bhogle tells about Tendulkar. So the Aussies whooped us for 359 in WC Final. Everyone in the dressing room is sitting around moping when all of a sudden Tendulkar says: "Can we score one boundary an over ? I think we can. That's 200 runs in 50 balls. Then we just need to score another 160 off 250 balls. Sounds good? Come let's go and try to win this match" That was the kind of thinking that's expected from Tendulkar. In passionately appealing for a comeback, you’ve forgotten one main point – We already made ours in the 2nd innings. If Sachin were to have thrown in the towel, he would have done so when Raina’s wicket fell. But MSD and he stuck to the task, never gave up and kept fighting, manfully. For you to now expect that the script will be re-written all over again and Sachin will add a 150 runs for the last 2 wickets is honestly, an expectation beyond the realm of reasonableness. I don’t want to regurgitate my stated position over and over again, but if we were 150 runs ahead with 2 wickets in hand and Sachin took the approach he did, I would have roasted him for that, personally. But this was a lost cause, without a shadow of doubt. The best case, hyper-optimistic scenario we could have hoped for is for the last 2 wickets to add 80-100 runs, setting South Africa a target of 60-70 runs. I honestly didn’t think it was worth the fight, only to prolong the inevitable. And don’t forget, Sachin was cramping overnight as well. Do you think it made sense for him to over-exert himself on day for the sake of 60-70 runs, only to injure himself in the process and risk missing the 2nd test?
Texan Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Yes. he should have tried to keep the strike. The team should never go out to play with a negative attitude that since we're definitely going to lose, let me just stay not out.
Deleted_User_1 Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Ok the game is over now. Can we all get along and pick up this discussion when India gets phaacked again in Durban? :two_thumbs_up:

[/quote'] But see this is the main point. Greatest comebacks in history sometimes happen when there ISNT a realm of reasonableness. You just give it your best shot. I'm not roasting Tendulkar here, just wondering why he chose to make life easier for the saffers on Day 5. I don’t want to regurgitate my stated position over and over again, but if we were 150 runs ahead with 2 wickets in hand and Sachin took the approach he did, I would have roasted him for that, personally. If he was hurting that bad, why even come out and play? I don't think this is a valid reason Sriram. This is like saying I'm not going to drive on the road because it just snowed and chances of accidents are higher. People still do. The main point is that we aren't laying into Tendulkar here. The man fought hard and got a 100 for us and could have saved it if Dhoni stuck around. We just want to know why he, of all people who NEVER EVER throws in the towel, chose to surrender on D5.
King Tendulkar Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Maybe he had been reading this thread http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=71353&highlight=shielding+tail

Dunno why you miss this fact completely. In the epic Laxman knock, did he shield Dravid? Even in the last 4th innings 100 Laxman made, he made Ishant play more deliveries than he himself faced! All those so called epic innings have always been partnerships with even tailenders standing up and providing able support. Not one single one of them was won single-handedly, there was always the dodged taileneder playing his unsung part and fighting hard

Roshanrocks Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010  another one of those, should have, would have threads
vvvslaxman Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 There is no logical explanation you can come up with for the way Sachin farmed the strike. We don't want to listen to history, geography. What would you have done in such a scenario. I would absolutely make sure tailenders face least number of deliveries atleast for the first 10 overs where they were expected to be fast and furious and they were.
achilles Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Sachin wanted to remain unbeaten. End of discussion.
Sachin=GOD Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Sachin wanted to remain unbeaten. End of discussion. why? (and please don't use that old excuse of increasing his average as your answer :winky:)
King Tendulkar Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 SA making masisve mistake just like aussies have done over years. And that is making snide comments and verbaly slamming us in public. Indian teams in general is very easy going and frankly casual at times' date=' all they are doing is winding us up and effectivley giving dhoni and kirsten their team talk. Our boys will be fired up and pumped now, saffies gonna face the wrath of a pumped up indian team, which is rare. All we need is some jelly beans and smith and co might as well not turn up for durban![/quote'] When will these gora teams learn. Do not wind up the India team, you just bring the best out of us:dance:
