In this test series against, Dhoni has looked one of most assured batsman. He is the highest sun scorer for India in this series. I think he has understand what is required from him as a batsman in tests. Though he bats at no. 7 but he has faced new ball too in Centurian test and has tried to score briskly. He has not bogged down like he was doing in Australia tests in 2007-2008. What is your say?

He would have loved to convert one of those starts into a big one. In fact if you include the last series in SA too, his last 6 scores have all been 20+ with just 1 50 and no 100s. His scores in SA read 5, 18, 34, 47, 33, 90, 35, 21. Too many wasted starts. Hopefully he will score a 100 in the next test!! In fact during the last tour, he wasn't bad in the ODIs either, 14, 55, 26, 44, all at a healthy strike rate.

Yup one innings when the wicket is flattened out and Dhoni is "proving"
Why do we need to whine about each and every good thing that someone does? The innings that he played in the 1st test was one of the better knocks by a #7. Agreed that the wicket had flattened out but the pressure of the hugs lead is enough to send ripples through anybody. And just to refresh your memory even in the 1st innings where the conditions were tough to bat on, only Dhoni apart from Sachin looked assured and played his shots freely. He ran out of partners and hence could not convert his score.

I am not whining at all. I am only presenting the facts. Dhoni has better in this series than he has done for the entire year, but one can't take the context out of the situation. Is he proving anything yet ? Not quite. Not to me. I was especially disappointed by his shot in 2nd innings.

Dhoni with so called 'Such Pathetic Technique' has outscored some of the most 'Technical' Indian batsmen. I think the Word 'Technique' is overemphasised and Too much discussed eveerytime we tour abroad. On this Kind of pitches and conditions apart from the 2nd innings of the 1st test you are never IN as a Batsman. You can get out even if you have negotiated the first 5-6 overs or even 10 overs max. So as long as you are there you make sure you Contribute something to the score and help the team with your runs, rather than Eating up deliveries like what Dravid did. Here are some of the stats for Both Dhoni and Dravid for the series so far. Dravid has played 225 deliveries and has scored 84 Runs. Where as Dhoni has played some 245 deliveries, little more than what Dravid played and has scored 179 runs, Thats more than twice of What Dravid have. Clearly its visible if we are to suceed with teh bat on this surfaces we need to keep playing shots to the deliveries which are meant to be put away. No wonder in the 2nd Innings of the first test as long as Gambo and Sehwag was there Pitch looked Flat and Scoring was so easy. The moment both of them Got out Dravid bogged down and we lost 2-3 quick wickets in No time without adding much to the score. Same in the 2nd inngs of the 2nd test, as long as Vijay and Sehwag were playing scoring looked easy and the pitch looked flattened out. After they were dismissed we all know for how many we lost 4 wickets.

^:dito: Dravid needs to change his role, and what he is doing is getting aggressive on wrong deliveries chasing wide ones, but taking nothing away from Steyn and co. they bowled really well at the Indian batsman.

We dont need to play aggressively, just make sure the Bad ones are Put away. South African bowling is not great in ODI's because they give away too many boundary balls despite bowling well for the most part. Hence in tests with the fields up you are bound to get the bad ones from them. Make sure you put them away. Dont need to be over aggressive.

Pathetic technique ,ugly batsman whatever, guy averaged 50 in the last English tour,70 in the last Nz tour and so far has been our highest scorer in this tour.So ,he has always been scoring overseas apart from Aus tour where he failed miserably.
