He's one of the fewer lot from current generation who actually respects the game and plays it wholeheartedly. His outswingers are deadly and most of the times unplayable.

Its just astonishing. 23.3 average for Steyn as opposed to 21.01 for Murali. But damn, he's gotten a wicket almost every spell against the world's best team. Easily one of the greatest bowlers ever.

Allan Donald was just as lethal as this guy in the 90s Agree, Donald himself is very similar indeed to Steyn, both fiery aggressive fast bowlers, and off the pitch gentlemen they are! in terms of stats theres not much difference similar average, SR and wickets per test! Though I feel Steyns career when it ends will be more significant! Par him there isnt anyone really classified as a world class bowler, as with Donald, there were Ambrose, Walsh, Mcgrath and Akram to name a few! Hes the most complete bowler at the minute, and his record speaks for himself! No bowler can compete with him at the minute! :hatsoff: well played sir!

Itll be interesting to see how he copes later in his career when he can not quite bowl as fast due to age. Will he have the skill and the accuracy to operate effectively at a reduced pace like say Lillee. Donald could not quite manage that.
Manny_Pacquiao Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 frighteningly good, almost never bowls a bad ball. he was so pumped up yesterday. i remembr he drifted down the leg side to harbhajan once and let out one of the loudest screams in anger with himself. u could see how badly he wanted to take wickets for his country. hell of a competitor. what was that stat they showed on the number of times tendulkar played and missed...26 times or something. i bet more than half those plays and misses were against steyn. tendulkar even after 4 and a half hours of batting couldnt play some of steyn's perfectly pitched away swingers. thatover in which he nearly had tendulkar and then hit harbhajan's off stump was one of the best overs i have seen and then of course the ball to pujara...simply unplayable. thank **** he didnt bowl an away swinger from leg stump hitting off to tendulkar. guy loves to have a chat too, doesn't he? makes for fantastic cricket.

Absolutely. He bowled just one slightly off color over and he was upset with himself. Such are his standards of perfection. Mind boggingly brilliant bowler. He is the combo of Allan Donald's pace and aggressiveness, with the guile of Wasim Akram, and part of the accuracy of Glen McGrath.

No fast bowler can be totally injury free, but he does it to the best of his abilities.

Akram the test bowler can stand up to any bowler in the history of cricket.

It has happened to every fast bowler in history of cricket and it will happen to him also . But I still feel he can be attacked and rattle him if batsmen take attack to him because unlike Akram who had more weapons in his arsenal to counter the attacking batsmen.
coverpoint Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 This was the most riveting cricket I have seen in quite a while. Really some amazing bowling and real good batting by Tendulkar. The kind of swing bowled by Steyn, I have not seen in a long long time. It was amazing how he could bowl with a relatively old ball in the morning and still swing the ball from leg stump and beat the bat consistently. Then Sachin took it on himself to shield Gambhir from Steyn for 5 full overs!. Amazing stuff :)

It was just that because of attacking field setting balls were reaching to boundry or just about that whenever there was solid contact with bat. So it continued that GG kept on taking Morkel and Sachin Steyn.
