"Quality of cricket" comparison: current Ind-SA series Vs the current Ashes

It is like comparing apples and oranges. Ashes has historical importance and I am sure all over England people are enjoying the rare spectacle of aussie bashing. SA- Ind series is obviously high quality cricket between two equal teams.

Ashes is good only for English and Australian fans. India/SA series rarely evoked this much interest. But this is definitely the best India-SA clash ever.

Wish this was a 5 test series. Could have become an all time classic. Can we please scrap the ODI series and play 2 more tests (from 12-16 Jan and 20-24 Jan)? Instead of those 5 odis, lets offer a 3 ODIs practice series to SA before the WC in India in the 1st week of Feb. Will be a better WC preparation for both the teams.

Voted for the 3rd, since there is no 4th option that reads – don’t care! But from a pure cricketing standpoint, the India South Africa series is way more captivating than the Ashes. The Aussies are clearly a team in turmoil. Just imagine the sheer number of changes they’ve had to ring in before and during the series – they didn’t pick their erstwhile no.1 spinner, they picked a spinner just because he was ‘local’ to Perth when he really wasn’t, ended up not playing him in Perth but in Sydney, dropped their no.1 pacer only to select him back again, played merry-go round with their pacers, had to change their opening combination, seen their captain almost fade into irrelevance, their vice-captain suffer from the worst loss of form and more. The English are clearly a team in the ascendancy. They’re much more settled line-up, with a wonderful captain and a great coaching staff. India-SA series is however, a battle between two evenly matched sides. Even if say South Africa wins this series 2-1, you could play an entirely new series next month in the same venue and India could very well end up winning that 2-1, that’s how closely these two teams are matched. Even though the English have already retained the Ashes, the Aussies are lucky to be even in position to draw the series. They were one session away from losing the Perth test when Johnson completely changed the test match. If England and Australia were to play the Ashes once again next month, the score line would probably read 3-0 in favor of the English right now, going into the 5th test and not 2-1 as it is now.
