fineleg Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Open with Sachin - Sehwag Pujara - 3rd Bhajji - 4th Dhoni - 5th Zak - 6th Dravid -7th Laxman - 8th rest... Tontee-Tontee :eyedance: @OP: The SA bowlers will be pumped up after Jacques' heroic effort. I just hope our batsmen can fight for a draw.
flamy Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 India will play for a draw. Dhoni is not the captain he was and will definitely be on the defensive.
fineleg Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 How you think we should be doing this. First session 28/29 overs are bowled perhaps with steyn bowling 10 or 12 overs, we score about 95 runs. If Sehwag cannot score a 50, none of what you say will happen, and the way he is playing even a 5 seems difficult.
gaurav92 Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 100/2 in the first session 100/2 in the second session 140/2 in the third session i don't understand what's so difficult about this. 340 is a par total in odi's these days. Yo Mannn typing and posting isn't all that hard, but doing that on the ground against some quality fast bowlers on a day 5 track is gonna be tuff :--D
Ramzz Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 We lost the game and series on Day 4: 2nd session of this test match. Lack of killer instinct + defensive captain+ lack of quality bowlers who can maintain pressure at both ends even when wickets are not easy to come by.

No If we didn't have a quality bowler in the side, who gave us initial breakthroughs ? We got the top order out cheaply, didn't we ? So we have a good bowling attack. After that I think the track got easier and flat, and there wasn't much available for the bowlers there. Although I agree that the track had nothing to do with bowling leg stump half volleys or short and wide outside the of stump, or the defensive tactics of having a long on and a mid wicket for Boucher who hardly slog sweeps spinners. After that Partnership I think, we just lost the zeal, we didn't continue to bowl our hearts out, and had we bowled with some enthusiasm then, I certainly feel we d be chasing something around 300 and not 340.
DomainK Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Be practical guys. Winning or drawing both look quite tough to me. Knowing Dhoni, if Sehwag gets out early, we will be playing for a draw and it will take a lot from Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman to play three sessions out. IMO there are 90% chances of a loss, 7% of a draw and 3% of a win.
Roshanrocks Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Does this Nostrababu quatrain relate to this series :hmmm: From the Ganges they will come with a fleet of fire With an ageing back they will attempt to triumph and conquer The Stain and the jack will fight fire with more fire The battle of the masters will conclude with victory or ceasefire
gaurav92 Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 ^:woot: :woot: Nice piece that and hope we manage to draw this Test
Sachin_Rulez Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Dravid is the weakest link in our battling line up. I hope we send Dravid down the order after Dhoni, if we need to save the test match. Otherwise, Dravid will come at no.3, lets the pressure build on other batsmen and gets out after playing for an hour or so.
veer Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 we need this win to futher stamp our authority on the title.. common lads.. lot depends on veeru, SRT and laxman if we want to win... veeru.. gambhir opening.. pujara next.. SRT laxman..
FairCricket Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 only shewag can win this for india , other wise its draw or a lost
Sachin2210 Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 A draw looks a realistic result for us. SA will certainly come out with an intent to win and set an attacking field to lure our batsmen into playing rash strokes. We need to be careful and ensure a draw is salvaged.

Smith will probably start with a third man and a deep point within the 1st 15 overs. Sooner if Sehwag gets a few boundaries. We cannot realistically chase 340 on this pitch, against this caliber of bowling with the form Sehwag, Dravid and Pujara is in. Forget it. Hope to get a draw out of it.
Lord Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 hope Sehwag is not crazy n not even thinking about a win.we need to see off Steyn n Morkel with the new bal to even draw t.winning is out of questionl

I agree that we got the initial breakthroughs but once the shine wore off we were not able to maintain pressure. Keeping a check on the run rate would make them declare late and also lead to them playing false shots. 2. Fitness of our bowlers. Zaheer was clearly in some kind of trouble. He is breaking down a lot this past year. Needs to take proper break, deal with them and then come back. Less said about Sharma the better. Another promising talent going down the drain, a la RP, IKP. His fitness is also doubtful. Needs more control over his deliveries to state the obvious.
Lord Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 can we get Ishant to bowl instead of Steyn,we'll be favourites to win then
akshayxyz Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Let me repeat the obvious: Sehwag goes quick 50, Dravid holds ground till mid - end of second session. Then if we have Laxman, Sachin MSD - in later half of the day - win is not impossible. But managing a draw will also be a commendable job, given the overall context. It takes more than a world class batting order to break such records as 'highest chase on 5th day". Respect the inanimate numbers too(records), they are not there for no reason. And if you do respect them with good application - then only they can give way.
