saneindian Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Dhoni Out Of 4th ODI With An Injured Leg http://www.thesportsmirror.com/2011/01/dhoni-out-of-4th-odi-with-an-injured-leg/ The series between India and South Africa is placed at a very sublime position at the moment. India would have hoped to seal the series on the 21st, which would have been their first ever series victory in South Africa. However the injury woe doesn’t seem to leave the Indian players. The only difference this time could be that it is the captain who has been injured. It has been reported that while practicing in the nets Dhoni injured his leg. This injury, even though not very serious, would keep Dhoni out of the fourth ODI which is to be played in Port Elizabeth. The reports on how serious the injury is, has not yet been confirmed. However it might be presumed that if the injury is quite serious then Dhoni might opt out of this series, keeping in mind that the World Cup is less than 30 days away. So far in this series Sehwag , Gambhir , Praveen Kumar and Sachin Tendulkar have been sent back home, to rehabilitate in time for the World Cup. Now that Dhoni has to opt out of the fourth ODI, perhaps the captaincy for the game would be handed over to Suresh Raina. Raina who had captained the Indian ream last time in Zimbabwe, last year, did not fare very well. In fact India lost the series to Zimbabwe. Even then major players had opted to rest and the team was pretty inexperienced. However with Gautam Gambhir out of the series, Raina would be the best available choice for India. Mean while it is expected that Piyush Chawla as well as Ravichandran Ashwin might be included in the side, to give them ample match practice before the World Cup. Murali Vijay who has not performed up to the mark so far, is expected to be replaced by Parthiv Patel who had been flown into South Africa with the ouster of Sachin Tendulkar. In such a situation Parthiv as well as Rohit Sharma, who had opened in the last match would be expected at the top of the order. As far as South Africa is concerned, they would be going in with a similar side as the previous game. The only difference might be that Imran Tahir, a leg spinner, who is uncapped so far, could be given a chance.
coffee_rules Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 No backup wicketkeeper for World cup...:yay:
spectre Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Fk, great chance to win a ODI series in SA and this happens... Suresh 'Future Captain' Raina would be the skipper
Ram Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Wow, this is now reaching worrying proportions. Never mind the fact that the first choice Indian eleven will probably be fit, come WC time. But now, you have to question their ability to last a 6 week tournament. Even if we do manage to qualify for the knock-outs, it could well be that we will be without some of our first-choice players. This doesn’t augur well at all.
Ram Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Btw, how can anyone see past either Bhajji or Yuvraj for captaincy?
jhakati Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Btw' date=' how can anyone see past either Bhajji or Yuvraj for captaincy?[/quote'] lol exactly, yuvraj it is. raina:hysterical::hysterical:
jf1gp_1 Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 SA have been cribbing about the loss of kallis and its impact; wonder how they are going to justify SA performance if India wins minus Dhoni.
fineleg Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Btw' date=' how can anyone see past either Bhajji or Yuvraj for captaincy?[/quote'] Not sure if Bhajji is considered captaincy material by team management. Yuvi is still working on gaining form, so they'll leave him to tackle that first. Like CR said, No backup keeper during Worldcup. If one day before or on morning of match MSD hurts himself, who will keep in a crucial WC encounter - Raina? :haha: Idiotic selection of the 15 :banghead: You need a backup keeper in such tournaments like WC. And for people who say that Parthiv Patel can just tour with the Indian squad during WC. 1. Is BCCI going to actually implement that idea? 2. Dont they need ICC clearance to get a player in as replacement even if Parthiv will tour with the Indian squad? What is the WC rule for player replacement? Getting ICC clearance will take a few days usually, right? (medical certificate, approval etc etc) And yeah - even if all players are fit for start of world cup, by the time of Quarter finals or Semi Finals - expect players to get niggles and drop out. They are all fragile now!
Zelig Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Pls no UV or Kohli. Too temperamental :headshake:
saneindian Posted January 20, 2011 Author Posted January 20, 2011 I think they are just being extra cautious and don't want to take even a minimal risk of playing players with niggles. And with there being nearly a month to go for the WC, we should be fine. Players will get enough time to rest and recuperate.
Manny_Pacquiao Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 i dont think this is anything serious. he is skipping the game as a precaution, thats all. kohli should get the captaincy. raina and yuvraj dont need to burden thesmelves with captaincy while their form remains patchy.
spectre Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 - Raina? :haha: Idiotic selection of the 15 :banghead: What is so idiotic about the choice. Offcourse he wont captain in WC since Gambhir would be there, if Dhoni goes down. Who else you see as captain in the present squad.. Raina already has been the captain for a whole overseas tri series.

They are all fragile now! See, this is the problem with you. I doubt if you’ve held a cricket bat in your life, even for posing for photos. In fact, I doubt if you’ve played any sports at all, EVER. Because if you did, you wouldn’t keep asking such simplistic questions over and over again. Players play with niggles ALL the time. It’s a fact of life. In fact, you can rarely count any player being 100% at any given time. If you, as a casual fan, can pinpoint a potential problem area, as far Dhoni’s fitness is concerned, you think, the Indian team management (Captain, coach and senior players) and the selectors would not have thought about that, that too for such a high-stakes tournament like this? You think they’re that stupid? Obviously, the coaching/conditioning staff are closely monitoring the fitness/general condition of all the players. By now, most players have a fair idea of how much their body can take, or when they should take a step backwards or push a little more. All of those would have obviously been factored into the calculation, whether it be picking the squad, or sending players mid-way back to India, from the Saffie series. If Dhoni is hurt on the morning of a match from slipping during training, so be it. We have to deal with it and move on. You cannot pick a squad to account for things like freak accidents. Plus, you really don’t know MS Dhoni, do you? That guy is a mensch. He will play through a brain hemorrhage, if it came to that. An odd niggle isn’t going to make him miss a world cup game.
fineleg Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Other than the Aussies' date=' exactly how many teams have picked a reserve keeper in the WC squad?[/quote'] I haven't followed the squads closely. No other team other than Aus have any keeper options? That will be strange. Well I know for SL - Dilshan will be considered reasonable backup (like Uthappa). Not the best, but decent choice. No other team other than Aus and SL have reasonable backup choices (at least Uthappa or Dilshan level players?) That is indeed surprising to me.
