End of the road for M. Vijay in ODIs?

This series should be the end of the road (for the near future at least) for M. Vijay in ODIs. Clearly we need someone else in the ODI squad after the world cup (in place of M.V.) Maybe Rahane can be tried?? Yusuf Pathan may not be chosen for ODIs in England conditions. I think in Tests, M.Vijay will still be in the squad since he can play the tuk-tuk variety.

he shouldnt be picked for any future ODI series. it's almost like india are playing with 10 instead of 11 while chasing. a 1 wicket handicap given to SA at the start of every innings. dhawan would be a good replacement

He seems to have lost form big time. He needs to get back to TN squad and score a lot runs and focus on tests. It's never the end of road for any player as long as limited overs cricket is concerned - we are just not blessed with too good players for it. Having a good domestic limited over season + IPL will always put the players back into the reckoning. Yes, it would serve both parties if he is not selected for LOI for a period of one year.

its strange to see him suck in ODIs, as he is a prtty decent T20 player. then again, can u really judge someone on their IPL record...he gets those runs against bowling attacks that arent' international standard

He is up against too many contenders for opening slot ..SRT,Sehwag,GG RS ...so unless he miraculously develops some great hitting skills.... it is end of road at least in near future. He is though a better Test batsman ..but not exceptional !

T20 is gettoing over him, his technique has gone a grade below what it was, not that he had a compact technique anyways, but some of the strokes he has been playing and getting out to, is by no means, an intelligent stroke, he isn't moving his feet, and trying to play the ball hard, standing on the crease, or should I say, slogging the ball hard :giggle: Rahane is a much better player IMO and should be given chances ahead of him

tbh he never was a power hitter,its just that 1 gud year he had during 3rd edition of ipl.he played out of his skin.he is like wasim jaffa,or akash chopra

He played well in CL too...don't forget in SA conditions...its all about one good innings in ODIs for him and he will be there...you cannot play a 58 ball 127 with 11 sixes whatever the attack is if you do not have the hitting ability and the talent...look at Jaffer and Chopra..someone is comparing him to them....they haven't done well even in IPL....be pozitive...have hopes

Well said. Plus he is very classy player. His shots are a treat to watch. You dont get such a talent very often...Yeah he is messing up his chances now. But he will come back really strong.

he's lost between t20 and tests with time, perhaps more one day games in domestic matches should improve his game

One series doesn't make or break a player. Especially against a frontline pace attack of Steyn and Morkel as an opener where the new ball is always difficult to negotiate. Vijay still has a lot of prove but he shouldn't just be discarded because he's had a poor ODI series so far against one of the best frontline pacers in their back yard. We'll have to be more patient.

Vijay and the selectors maybe need to understand that the difference between playing T20s and ODIs are glaring. There is no doubt they'll draft him again after a good run of form in the IPL only for him to lose form again against a quality attack. Sometimes, it is better for a player to be asked to work hard in the domestic circuit and make him force his way into the team (like Pujara), than giving him a push for possibly other reasons. PS - Nice to see people, who supported him tooth-and-nail once upon a time, treating a situation on its merit and not getting sentimental about it.
