Sachinism Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Was hoping to get some good recommendations for: - Ahmedabad - Kolkotta (near Eden Gardens) - Nagpur - Chennai - Kochi / Kumarokam - Chandigarh - Mumbai Thanks guys :icflove: I know I've not been very specific and most of the places are huge. But recommend something and I'll see if I can make it I'll try and be more specific soon
zen Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 There are a lots of good restaurant on the C.G. Road in A'bad. If I remember correctly, there is one by the name of Tomato, which is not bad. Walk in to any 4 or 5 star hotel and you are likely to find a good restaurant in there.
The Outsider Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Try Ghazal and Swagat in Chandigarh. They used to be pretty good. Aaloo Anarkali at Ghazal is a superb side with beer. But, many new places have opened up over the past few years so my picks are probably not up to date.
punjabi_khota Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Go to the Great Kabab Factory in Hotel Radisson in Chennai and get the vegetarian Kabab option....6-8 different kababs, order as many repeats as you like followed by Biryani and desserts..it is very close to the airport IIRC

Gunner_Mania Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Hotel Saravana Bhavan, Chennai. end of..Doesnt matter where you are in Chennai there is one likely to be round the corner. Dont eat at the one here in Eastham and set your expectations based on that ;) The one in Eastham is pathetic.

They are one of the best when it comes to veggie food in Canada.
Mariyam Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 In Mumbai, Swati Snacks at Tardeo and Soam opposite Babulnath mandir. Must go for veggies.

In Ahmedabad you can try Govardhan Thal for authentic Gujarati food.

Anyway if the one in Chennai is better should be good fun. It was already part of our plans actually.
gaurav92 Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Cannon Pav Bhaji wala at CST is awesome :eating:
gaurav92 Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 For Yummm Gujju food, you may go to Ville Parle in suburbs (Shane will guide you :D). For Continental you may go to Zodiac Grill at Colaba, that is just sensational :woot:.I am hungry now :(
kabira Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Ahmedabad: Try Honest Restaurant., they are all over. There are quite a few good ones on SG Highway.
Ram Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Hotel Saravana Bhavan' date=' Chennai. end of..Doesnt matter where you are in Chennai there is one likely to be round the corner. Dont eat at the one here in Eastham and set your expectations based on that ;) The one in Eastham is pathetic.[/quote'] Actually, I’d the recommend the one in Pondy Bazaar, right next to Maya’s Plaza. Its better because a) its in Pondy Bazaar :D. So obviously you can club your shopping with your eating and b) this one isn’t usually as crowded as some of the other ones. Plus, they serve you the food in these neat little copper coated plates. The cleanliness is above average, the service is good and polite and the ambience is reasonable (you wont hear the rattling sound of metal hitting metal from the kitchen). The good thing is, you can find good quality South Indian meals AND tiffin (dosa, pongal, uthappam etc..), here. So if you like the place, you can even go back the next day. While you’re in Pondy Bazaar, don’t forget to pay a visit to the Murugan Idli shop (either on G.N Chetty street or South Boag road.). Both of them are within walking distance from the Saravana Bhavan in Pondy Bazaar. These guys serve the best quality idlis you can ever find anywhere. The best part is, the food is served on traditional plantain leaves, with 5-6 varities of chutneys + steaming sambar + the classic molaga podi (combination of spices soaked in teaspoon of oil..). Plus, don’t forget to pay a visit to the famous Marina beach (which is right next to the MAC stadium) and have a shot at those sizzling/spicy Bhajjis (Vegetables soaked in rice/flour batter, roasted in oil). They’re not the healthiest of food choices I admit, but it’d be shame if you go that far and end up not trying them. There are loads of other places as well. But they're just way too expensive and just not worth the money. (you'd be amazed to know how expensive food is, in India these days. Plus, since you're Gujjew, you cant even tell good South Indian food from bad. :giggle:
Malcolm Merlyn Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 In Kolkata try Haldirams,Gangaur,Teej,Rajdhani,Guptas. IF you are a fishitarian then you have lot more options.Sadly not many veg retros near Eden.
