how funny would it be if raina scores a century in the warm-up game against australia !!!!!!!!!!!!! the forum would break down due to server overload from all the discussion taking place over who should and shouldnt play...LOLZ i would hate to be in dhoni's shoes right now...world cup 25 days away and he still doesnt know his starting XI

Guys, team selection could well depend on the opppsition we will be facing and the track record of our batsmen and record of our parttimers against them. In that case even Gambhir might not be safe. But he will definately start for sure without a doubt if no niggles.

gambhir was scoring hundreds for fun against NZ at home, and he just had a great tour of SA in the test matches the guy is in good form and to even think about dropping him is absolutely insane the way things are right now, gambhir, kohli and yusuf are the only guys india can count on for runs

The team management might do it, but if it were up to me I would not pay much heed to the warm up matches performances. Teams try out different things and those matches could ideally be used to fine tune some strategies rather than decide the final batting line up itself.

i beg to differ, i think thats EXACTLY what warm ups will be used for. u can imagine the pressure on dhoni and the coaches right now...they havent got a clue who to pick with their embarrassment of riches. they are going to tell their players that whoever finds form in the warmup game is going to play. its a convenient way for them to decide who to pick, and if the media questions them, they can easily justify a selection by saying that 'xyz looked goodl in the warm up game'. the media and public will do its bit by crying out for raina if he scores a hundred and they might be forced to select him

Raina has been brilliant in India and if its just the SA conditions that caused him to fail, he could be fighting for that spot again. Warm ups will give a chance to the players in the same conditions the WC is to be played, so they are important

Let us drop one of the pace bowler and go in with 3 main bowlers and 2 part timers. Not that our main bowlers are any better
I am actually starting to like this idea,Yuvi is bowling good enough to be treated as a 4th bowler IMO

Absolutely...Gambhir will definately be in the starting xi. He deserves it. But he is coming back from injury and he will be under pressure right away. I am sure he will perform but all I am saying is that he will have to perform to have safe pathway thru the wc.

Averages 53 in 2010 with strike rate of 102 @ No.6 and some experts here want him dropped...anything can happen in ICF Stats courtesy: S=G http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/33335.html?batting_positionmax1=6;batting_positionmin1=6;batting_positionval1=batting_position;class=2;filter=advanced;orderby=default;spanmax1=31+Dec+2010;spanmin1=01+Jan+2010;spanval1=span;template=results;type=batting

It is such a headache for Dhoni to pick one from Raina and Yusuf. On one hand is his buddy, his understudy, his most trusted player at No.6. On the other hand is a player who can simply smoke the best attacks in the world out of the park at will, has worked on his technique against the short pitch bowling and is a better Off-Spinner than Raina. I think the odds are in favour of Yusuf Pathan, esp. after today's match and this phenomenal series.

Yuvraj is the closest thing we have to an all rounder. There is no way India will be able to get through 10-14 overs from part timers without him. He simply has to play. Putting Dhoni's name there is just stupidity. He is wicketkeeper and obviously the captain. Raina will have to sit out.
+1 Though all three of Raina, Yuvi and Dhoni are struggling with bat, but it would be Raina, who'll have to sit out of starting 11.

I think Kohli will be the one who misses out because Dhoni has decided to go with 4 specialist bowlers. Raina,Yuvi & Yousuf will share remaining 10 overs. Kohli also has a weakness of failing in big games like against Pakistan in CT, few finals in SL and bow today the decider against SA.

Unless Kohli provides an option of useful medium pace bowling (ala Collingwood) during the middle overs, I don't see Kohli being selected.
