To be fair, Kohli has been quite lucky that he has been able do something that few 21 year olds can only dream of – Bat at no.3 in ODIs. It is very rare that someone that young is given a chance to play that high up the order, this early in his career. But, the Indians did dabble with Rohit first and then Karthik up the order. But Kohli grabbed his chances with both hands cemented his place during the tri-series played in B’desh, when he scored those 2 100s. Coming at no.3 in ODIs has some significant advantages. You can come in, take your time and build your innings, a luxury that don’t lower middle order batsmen like Raina rarely gets. However, many batsmen, including our very own Rohit Sharma, can learn a lot from how Kohli approaches the innings in an ODI. Whenever he walks in, you can sense that he wants to stay there till the end and finish the job, whether it be batting first or second. That is the kind of attitude that you want all your batsmen to have. There’s no rush-of-blood strokes, nor is there any nervous pokes outside off-stump. Often times, Kohli’s SR are in the 70s-80s in the initial part of the innings, but he almost never fails to accelerate in the end

Morris, same to your post i wann asay, Kohli has been unlucky that he hasn't made to the test team yet. He came in too late. Had he been given more chance, he would have been in our test side early. Nothing taking away from Pujara, but thats our system has worked. The guy who looks class in odi's gets into the test squar way before the guys who amass runs in domestic. And Kohli's position in ODI team was always put online and was played a lot. Glad that he is a premanent player in the team today.

As I mentioned previously I was one of his harshest critics in the past and am a huge fan right now. The kid deserves all the rankings and accolades. He is even better than Sachin or rather miles ahead of Sachin at this stage of his career. Sachin made his first century in his 72nd match I suppose whereas Kohli is collecting centuries and fifties from every second or third match nowadays. Hope he can continue his form. I would not go to the level of selecting him captain anytime soon though as he has just matured as a player and I would give some time before giving him further responsibilities.

He started to really come on now the ODI experience behind him will do him much good if he gets into the test line-up. I think the time is now, for Dravid to step down, for Kohli to come in at 6 and Pujara at 3.

Glad that he is a premanent player in the team today.[/quote'] Tics, forget test cricket, even in ODIs, Kohli has had a relatively fortunate run, when compared to someone like Raina. Consider this, Raina was promoted up the order in 2008 Asia cup and he immediately cracked 2 100s in that tournament. In fact, he averages 55, batting at no.4 on ODIs. Of course, this isn’t to take anything away from Virat and what he has done in the last 12 months, but lets also keep things in perspective – the higher you bat up in the order in ODIs, the easier it gets for you to score big runs and be noticed. Lower middle order batsmen invariably come in when the game is already in a mature state and it is very hard for them to score 100s and get into the headlines.

Yep, I agree about Raina, hence never mentioned. He did well with whatever little chance he got to play at no. 3. Just that Kohli did oustandingly well to and hence Dhoni kept Raina as more of a finisher than having him anchor the innings at no. 3

Yes he is in great form, but can you not name at least 5 international batsmen whom you would pick in your dream team (all based on current form) P.S: I am a big fan of your positivity, so this is not a personal attack.
