An honest question to Indian fans: Are we really a better ODI side than South Africa ? They will win it this time.

All this on paper theory mean sh@# in this cup. Essential the winner will be decided in 3 games. Whiever team has 3 good game and hold their nerve ( something SA don't know much about ) will win.
Exactly. That pretty much summarizes everything that needs to be said about this world cup champion. This world cup format will not reward the most consistent teams. Any team can have a bad day (unless it is the great Aussie ODI side of the past) -- certainly any of the current top teams. The 1996 SAF team was much stronger & was knocked out by WI in the quarter finals. Except for NZ & may be WI and Eng, five other teams have a real chance of lifting this cup. Pakistan is not a consistent team, but they are known to punch above their weights in games that matter. SL has a very good bowling attack with a capable top order. India & SAF have strong teams on paper and Australians always play well in big games. Any of them can win this world cup. So all this talk of one or two teams being the favorites does not make sense. Just enjoy while our team lasts! Speaking of an ideal format, I think the 1992 cup format (with all teams playing each other) is the best. I wish (with the world cup reduced to 10 teams), we will revert to that format in 2015.

I agree with most of what you say. I have a feeling that either England or South Africa will lift the World Cup; both are well-organized, disciplined teams. India is going to be let down by its non-penetrative bowling (?)attack. In my opinion, Dhoni is not a good captain. Look at his open favoritism for the inexperienced raw Piyush Chawla and public criticism of Sreesanth. He could very well have taken Sreesanth to task in the privacy of the Dressing Room rather than demoralizing him by criticising him in the Press Conference. For all his faults, Sreesanth looks the most penetrative of all the Indian bowlers. A bowler like him needs to be handled carefully with a judicious mixture of criticism and praise, not in Dhoni's blunt manner. And oh, Dhoni's wicketkeeping sucks too.... his reflexes are gone. Just compare his wicketkeeping with Sangakarra's in the recent SL/ Canada match and you will know what I mean ! Hope I haven't offended any India fans !

Thanks for your insight. :giggle:

I think he has not seen Dhoni's effortless stumpings in warmups and 1st match
Hmmm... maybe he should put in some EFFORT:rolleyes: Sangakarra is also a Wicketkeeper/Captain. There is a sense of joy and camarederie in the Srilankan Team that is sadly lacking in the Indian Team. Indian Team = A bunch of dour, assorted individuals with massive egos and no sense of humor, each living in his own world. I want India to win the WC as much as any other Indian, but with Dhoni as captain I don't see that happening. If by some miracle they do, it will be due to a few individual brilliant performances, like Sehwag the other day, and the mistakes of other Teams.

I haven't gone through the whole thread or the OP but going by the thread title: Ind vs SA Batting: Ind has an edge Pace bowling: SA has an edge but Zak and Munna know how to bowl in these conditions too Spin bowling: Ind has an edge but Botha is not bad Fielding: SA has an edge One can draw his own conclusions from the above. :P
