Sachin=GOD Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Can't see India losing to Netherlands or Ireland. Even on a bad day they are too good for the minnows. remember the 2007 World Cup :hmmm:
flamy Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Why not lose against the Netherlands then' date=' it will take care of all these weird law of averages and **** people keep talking abt.[/quote'] :cantstop::cantstop:
Ultimate_Game Posted February 23, 2011 Author Posted February 23, 2011 remember the 2007 World Cup :hmmm: That was against B'desh and on a pitch where India should have bowled first but decided to bat first in order to "prepare for super 8s". On Indian pitches I don't see any of the minnows troubling us.
flamy Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I am more of a Belichick fan and for quotes I prefer Dennis Green or Rex Ryan :) The only thing I would change is that we play to win the world cup... I would prefer to lose a game if it gives me a better chance to win the tourney. you, urself know that makes no sense :) it is just the residue of the 90s fan in you pining for that. I admit I find it hard to empathize with you or anyone who watched cricket at that time. (sorry to assume that this is the case because I can't see how anyone who is a fan of our present Indian team can not be confident) I started watching post-2000, the fantastic 2003 world cup, and really got into cricket from 2006-7, around the time Dhoni took up captaincy. All these superstitions are just funny to me. That said, I don't mind them losing in the group stage even to SA. The goal is the cup.

The one thing which Indian teams have always struggled with is consistency. Consistency has never been our hallmark and in fact I would love to know what's the most consecutive wins by India in odis. We are not like Aus who are good day in and day out, we have our off days. Case in point look at our biggest wins - in 1983 or T20 world cup in 2007 or the CB series in Aus. In all those tourneys we lost a match or matches at one stage before winning the tourney. This may be something to do with our temperament - unless given a kick up our @ss we tend to under-perform. If India wins the tourney dominantly by blowing every team away there wouldn't be anyone happier than me but I'm a realist and I would be a little bit uncomfortable if India gets to the knockout stages winning every game. I guess this fear is based on India's track record in terms of consistency over the years.
punjabi_khota Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 ^Yo fool, remember India's run in 2003 WC ? Whenever I read the line "but..I am a realist", I picture the poster as a whiny little kid who was molested in high school by the bullies.

Lord Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 I wont mind them losing even 3 games in league,as long as they make the Q/F n win 3 on the trot from there:--D
ravishingravi Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 WC is down to 3 matches as far as I am concerned. Rest assured India will lose one before that
akshayxyz Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Let me put it in other words - which game(s) we can(must) afford to rest few of the first-choice players.
Ultimate_Game Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 Let me put it in other words - which game(s) we can(must) afford to rest few of the first-choice players. I think the 2 games after the Eng game against Netherlands and Ireland should be the games for us to rest our injured players and make sure all the players are fit and raring to go after that.
