Not sure how much longer they can go into matches with 3 specialists bowlers. They might need to drop an opener and open with Akmal. That solves 2 issues. 1) It gives Razzaq more time to bat. (He came in today with 7 balls left) 2) It allows Pakistan to play an extra bowler instead of using Razzaq as the 3rd seamer. In terms of the fielding, that's actually drastically approved compared to the Australian tour last year. But today's showing was downright pathetic. Miss-fields, dropped catches/stumpings, missed run-outs. Maybe it was the pressure that got to them but they need to get it sorted out because that allowed Sri Lanka to get back in the game today. You can't give good teams a second chance like that.

In form openers, inform middle order, Misbah in one hek of a form, late order dazzlers, good variety of spinners, and pretty decent in pace. Uncle old Akthar still firing fire!! :two_thumbs_up:

Has completely turned around the team. Agreed. Their team always had decent bowling, these two have made an otherwise mediocre batting lineup international class. This just means you take out one of the two early and it could be back to square one.

To be honest I didn't watch the game at all but I knew before hand who ever won the toss was going to win the game. As with alot of day night matches in Lanka.

In any major competition, teams gets hyped based on just one or two performances and the next thing you see is them falling flat! This Pak team is looking good in most departments but like Pak teams of the old,I don't think they will be able to put in consistent performances..still tournament structure is such that they might easily end up reaching semis.

jusarrived Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 for the first time in years they appear as a cohesive unit. seniors playing responsible innings juniors showing their potential catching is good, fielding is looking sharp and who knew spin would have been their main weapon. they should make SF or better if they keep this up have to agree they are a much improved side . I predicted them beating SL , thats no surprise . They might make it to semis , but they dont have the quality/talent to go beyond that . Certainly not a side to be taken lightly though.

Pakistan's team is made up of a lot of utility players, only Misbah averages over 40. The openers are still a bit unstable..Akmal brothers will chip in with 40-50 runs and Razzaq/Afridi the odd 20-35 runs but a lot is dependent on Misbah and Younis to anchor the innings and the others playing around them. Thererfore, the batting can come under pressure in most scenarios. Against the Aussies, Pakistan can trouble them with their spin attack but the Pak batsmen would be under pressure against their pacers depending on the type of pitch we get.

Like I have said in the past too , both chasing/defending they are in their comfort zoe ~270 totals , a few rusn +/- there is no talent either in bowling or batting to chase/defend that kind of total

Quality/talent is available in both batting and bowling, better than many others.

Batting 1st in colombo they can beat any team except for maybe australia. This is why its important India doesnt have to play in sri lanka by topping its group.

Misbah & YK are above avg . The rest of your team is mediocre at best .
