There was no time for the curator to prepare the wicket. I'm no pitch expert but I think he left a lot of grass to keep the pitch together and shaved it off on the morning. If we had a drier pitch, it would have taken a lot more spin. Something like the warm up game against Australia. Yes, I feel India is playing one batsman too many but then again, that's the strategy they have adopted for a long while and its something that has worked for them. Personally I think they can afford one extra bowler in place of a batsman but I doubt they are going to change their tried and tested 7+4 combination. Just checked the scorecard for the warm-up since I didn't watch/follow it. Haha, what an epic collapse. That is more like what we expect in India. Runs coming freely off the new ball and then the spinners come on and choke the runs/run through sides.
fineleg Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 India just cannot win this Worldcup. The only strength for India is batting, and that's too one dimensional. How can India win the WC with just advantage in one out of three departments? I think one of SL or SA/Aus are going to win it.
sudheer kumar Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Ashwin has 14 wickets in 7 matches. They should try him. He always attacks the stumps. He always flights the ball. He gives himself more chance than some of the other spinners we have. I dearly miss Ojha. He is one bowler you simply cannot go after easily. He got amazing loop that you can't easily hit through. 16 matches 20 wickets ER of 4.31. Anyway he is not in the squad. So next best option is to include Ashwin in place of Chawla and Nehra in place of Yusuf pathan. Yes you are right........... But at the end Raina will be in place of pathan We miss ojha who can control run rate in middle overs. Ashwin is also tries to keep run rate downwards and he can bat. Chawla should replace by Ashwin and Bhajji need to secure his spot in final XI. Raina

We do have a tendency to collapse whenever it is crunch time or get complacent. This is happened in past and I guess it shall continue. On the other hand, our bowling is consistently and very rarely collapses. And one more thing it is consistently average (below)

On a pitch where Anderson, Bresnan, Swann, Yardy, Collingwood also conceded the same number of runs ? Remember Zaheer, Harbhajan, Nehra, Munaf were part of a winning combination which lead India to No.2 in ODI ranking. I think they will get their act together when it matters.

At this level, if you are not strong, you are weak...... no 'average' or 'medium' about it. Look at Sri Lanka in 1996 and Australia in 2003 and 2007..... all strengths, no weaknesses ! You can't be 'average' in any department and expect to win the WC !!

If batting is strongest in the world , then of course bowling will be relatively weaker when compared.
