Mariyam Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I find it amazing how people are quick to defend politicians and to bash journalists. Who are these people? Who has 'bashed' the media? Who has 'defended' the politicians? :P Remember that without the media, none of the corruption scandals will even come to light. Our govt. has and will always be a master at hushing all truth. Arnab has a very valid point. Why did the govt which had evidence about this guy since 2007-2008, not act for so long? And if he didn't ask the question, how many of us would even know that the govt had evidence against this guy for 3 or 4 years? If M. Iyer has no clue, he can say I am the wrong person to answer this question. What is not acceptable is for him to declare that the reporter is the wrong person to ask the question. It is the right of the media to question these guys, as the common man has no direct access to them. Everything you say here is true. No one has ever denied any of it. More than a media bashing exercise ( if its my post that you meant) , this is about Arnab being a very poor host of a debate. I am not criticizing Arnab the journalist ( nor do I praise him). I do not doubt his journalistic credentials. What I am criticizing him for is his totally unfair and intrusive behaviour in a debate where he is supposed to be just a facilitator. It is obvious that he doesn't know as much about the case as the experts on his panel ( barring Mani Shankar Iyer). So why then interject when someone speaks on a topic they know more about than you? If I were to chair a Bradman vs Sachin debate between Fineleg and BB, and interject every 5 seconds (taking Bradman's side) with rhetorical questions when I am nowhere close to being an authority on the subject as the two of them are, how would the debaters from the Sachin camp feel? Pretty boring analogy, but you get my point.

The fact that he wins elections from south Tamil Nadu ( a hometown he hasn't been to in years) is the sad reflection of Indian democracy. /end story. So a PA cannot rise in stature through the course of his life? A PA cannot have higher aspirations? Why hold that against him? Why is that a sad reflection of Indian democracy? Maybe, just maybe he hasn't been to that hometown because of his various foreign postings.
