Late Cut Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I agree with MSD- these matches are pretty meaningless anyway, there really make no difference in going into the knockout stages. It is pretty easy to see which teams will qualify.

People do but the point is not about giving Chawla confidence or make him feel good just because Chawla "made his debut as a teenager and now ppl are after him". This is the world cup - if you can't handle pressure and perform you don't belong. Chawla can have as many games as he likes and build as much confidence in IPL following the world cup but we can't afford to pick Chawla now.

It not difficult to see that he is trying to get everyone in top shape before the KO and giving games to those he thinks could be useful later on and thus need the most exposure to improve their games. If I recall correctly, he is even not putting fielders close in to avoid the possibility of injuries. He also constantly backed Yuvi in this tourney, even promoted him to #4 against Eng (which was probably not a good move in the context of that game) but it did give Yuvi the confidence to deliver later on by hitting two more 50s and seeing Ind through Since Ind has qualified and if this is what his game plan is then he should try out both Sree and Nehra in the game against SA and possible against the WI (depending upon the result of Ind-SA game) because both these bowlers need some confidence building measures too as we may have to play the 3rd seamer sooner or later. Also it would not be a bad idea to promote YP to #5 in the remaining two group games (or at least against SA) so that he can get into rhythm. As I said, I am fine with his strategy if he has the bigger picture in mind. But the use of this strategy should not be just limited to Chawla and Yuvi :winky:

Though Chawla has been garbage so far, with "unbreakable" Nehra, you never know when he'd pick up an injury -- so maybe Dhobi saving him :--D
