Watson87 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Folks I think we have been spoilt rotten with Dhoni and have taken him for granted. Reminds me of the saying "ghar ki murgi daal barabar". You only have to look around at other teams to see how lucky we are. None of the other wicket keepers come close to him at the moment as Dhoni > Haddin, Akmal, Prior, Van Wyk etc. Only McCullum can get close but even he averages much less than what Dhoni does. We are talking about a guy whose record speaks for itself - an average of around 50 from 150-200 games and a SR around 90! Plus he's the captain to boot! Whom would you rather have in the team? Dinesh Karthik? Parthiv Patel? Be thankful for what we have as I still remember the days when the likes of Mongia, Saba Karim, Vijay Dahiya, Ajay Ratra kept for us and our tailenders started from the wk position. :hatsoff: Some people here just hate Dhoni, i tend to stay away from their threads but couldn't resist today.

I don't like some of his decision making as a captain and sometimes his attitude.. He is an asset of Team India..a great player and captain but sometimes I don't agree with his decisions.

[/quote'] I stayed away for a long time but couldn't hold back anymore. Ppl are talking as if we have Gilchrist waiting in line! We should be extremely thankful that we are lucky to be blessed with a player who's a pretty decent wk, can get into the team purely as a batsman and is a pretty decent captain to boot. What else can we ask for? Maybe these ppl have started following cricket only recently and don't know what it was like to lose the 5th wkt and see the likes of Mongia/Dahiya/Ratra/Karim walk out to bat :(( I still remember those days and thank my stars we found Dhoni :smiley:

If he came up to bat and played a long innings then 'he doesn't give others a chance' - I remember a time he used to get constantly criticised about that was said to be 'keeping his average high by batting in the best places'. Now he's trying to give others a chance, people want the old Dhoni back If he came and swung and happened to get out he would be labeled 'irresponsible' All people are asking is Dhoni should play according to the context of the game. Defies logic how he can give strike to the likes of Nehra and Munaf when the better batsmen were not able to stand the pressure of Steyn and co. Dont drag the debate in another direction.

Lets see his laurels when STR, Dravid and VVS retire from tests and he has an equally weak ODI side. He is nothing but lucky to have the kind of team that he has at the moment...but too much name and fame is getting to his head.

Dhoni is really a shadow of himself but the one area in which he hasn't faltered is his wicketkeeping. He did a splendid job of the run out and stumping.
Sidhoni Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Dhoni's keeping has been really nice in this WC, he took 2 wonderful catches against the Irish. Whereas his batting is concerned, he steered India to victory along with Yuvi against Ireland and Netherlands. His captaincy has also been nice, you cant judge a captain by just a last over of a game.I dont think there is any problem.! HE batted like he did previously in the warm-up match aainst New Zealand, and if Yuvi or Kohli wud have stayed longer on the crease, he wud have played a similar role. HE was being defensive because he did not want to get out and weaken the team's position, he wanted to bat 50 overs after yuvi and virat had departed so that the team cud have got at least 305-310.
vvvslaxman Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Dhoni's captaincy is what sometimes worrying. Yesterday we were defending 297.. we dragged them to 50th over.. If SA were to chase 350.. Dhoni would have dragged them to 50th over as well. So basically more the target, more Dhoni is defensive.

This is the point that we have tried to point out. Unfortunately, some people don't understand that logic > rhetoric. Your stats speak for themselves. Ofcourse there would be a ridiculous defence for that too, but well, truth is bitter. I think some of the blasphemous posts and the tenacity of the replies is an indirect admission of our assertion being right as not everything is explained in black & white.

Lately, he has been trying to change his role as saviour at number 6 or 7 in case top order fails.

That's the problem when you have so many achievers (batsmen) in your team. Dhoni should push himself up, that's where he performs best.
