King Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 How upbeat are you now about India's chances of winning the world cup? I don't reckon they can, that doesn't mean I don't back them or don't rate them. They are fantastic all right but given the combination, selection and the way they have gone on so far I reckon they will crash out before they get to the finals. As usual, any such negative thoughts with regards to India's chances, I'm more than happy to be proved wrong. In fact I'd love to have egg on my face if India can go all the way. Despite my predictions I'd like India to lift the cup I think India will not get ahead of Semis at the most. This team did deserve to win the world cup but I guess a few silly selction blunders has screwed up India's chances in my opinion. I'll be watching every game from now with a thought at the back of my mind that India will not win but will watch every ball though. On another note, if India can't then go NZ.... or Windies.
therocky Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Even on a great batting pitch they failed to make 300 after going over 150 in 20 overs and then lost to Choke Africa. And Dhoni bowling Nehra in the last over  , I know even if Bhajji bowled there was a chance that they would hit sixes since he is a spinner but atleast he wouldn't give them as easy balls as Nehra.
therocky Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 If India can't win then Aussies. Shane watson supporting iNdia
King Posted March 16, 2011 Author Posted March 16, 2011 If India were good enough, they would have absolutely thrashed every opponent they have come across so far like the Aussies did in the last world cup. Against Bangladesh India were great but after that game they haven't been good over all. Batting has been good though but batting alone cannot win games consistently. India has had couple of close games but the truly champion teams get ahead in close games. Unfortunately India hasn't done enough to motivate. India has put up very good fight though but hasn't been able to snatch that much needed moments during a game with both hands.
The Outsider Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Never really rated India's chances above others going into the world cup, even though they were and still are bookie favorites. Yeah, they have a chance to go all the way but about more or less the same as Australia, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.
kabira Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 well its most open world cup. I always thought this team has temperament to win close games. But two close games they could not win. I guess lot of luck is needed too. I am hoping they can reach semis and from there on just 2 games....just 2 games...
cowboysfan Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I cant imagine us winning 3 knockout games in a row with this bowling unit,we will see.
vvvslaxman Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I have 0% hope from the outset. There are certain things that have to go right for India. compared to Aussies who won last 3 world cups, we are not that good exerting pressure on opposition while fielding.
punjabi_khota Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 More upbeat than my chances at America's got talent.
fineleg Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 india will crash out in quarters, but i'll be happy if MSD can prove me wrong. Horrible captaincy and lack of commitment from bowlers/fielders
Ashraful_Rox Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 India was favorite before tournament starts, don't give up hope Indian fans game not over yet.
saneindian Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 As good a chance as 7 others who will go through to the semis. We need to put our campaign back on track in the next match. We did that in the 2007 t20 WC when we won 4 games on the trot to win the cup. Yyes the format was nothing compared to a ODI WC, but we must draw inspiration from there.
Ultimate_Game Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I am pretty bullish on India's chances. We need a minor tweak in the bowling lineup with Ashwin coming in for one of the pacers and sticking to the original lineup with Kohli at 4 and Pathan at 7. I think we can peak at the right time starting with Windies game
Manny_Pacquiao Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 if u make a poll after the team loses, then the majority will vote no lets see how india does against west indies. that match is gonna set the tone for the QF india plays. there are two things that can happen. either india will be pumped up to prove a point and will put in a quality performance to beat windies and qualify for the quarters in style. or india will doubt themselves and play a sloppy game which will kill their confidence even further. lets hope we see the first, not the 2nd. the result doesnt mean much, the important thing is that india plays good cricket and gains a bit of confidence. winning isnt enough.

On the contrary the match may decide who the winner of the game meets in the quarters. Ind-WI game is the last league game in either groups so they will have a very clear idea who they will face if they win or lose. If the tourney goes per form, Aus should beat Pak and SL should take care of NZ. In that case NZ finishes 3rd in Group A and winner of Ind-WI game gets the 2nd spot in Group B. In such a scenario the winner gets to play NZ in quarters and the loser SL or Aus. Now you tell me which team would you rather face in a knockout game? I am not saying kiwis would be a walkover but we definitely have a better chance against kiwis than Aus or SL. Plus the win will boost our confidence to take on anyone in the quarters as the defeat will mean that India goes into knockouts without a win over a significant opponent. I trust India to raise their game and go for the win.
Manny_Pacquiao Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 if india is serious about winning the world cup, they wont give a **** who they play. dont make the mistake of assuming that the indian players think like the retarded fans who claim to 'support' them.
King Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 Now you guys need to understand this poll doesn't really mean India is not a good team. They are a bloody good team both in tests and ODIs. Just that they have not either picked the right combination or haven't just enough justice or shown signs that they will be the winners this time around. There is certainly no lack of support for India despite the results for now or in future at least from me. Neither am I pissed off with the team but this is just an observation. It will take a mighty effort by India to go all the way but there is no much evidence so far that they can do it that's about it.

True India will need to beat anyone and everyone to win the tourney but don't tell me it doesn't matter to players and team management whom they play. Any team will try to get a weaker opponent in the knockouts and that's why everyone tries to top the group - so that they could play weaker team from the other group.
