I know he wasted his talent, i know he should have achieved more, he should have stayed out of off field controversies but shoaib akhtar is akhtar for what he did through out his career. everytime he ran into bowl, he gave all his best, no body doubted his efforts when on the field. People say he will be forgotten soon, I assure you he wont, he left his mark on every single batsman who he bowled to. H ebowled one or two overs to lara in his whole career, lala just talks about that. He was an exciting bowler no doubt and talented too, but he has nothing to show for his talent except a few youtube videos of brilliant deliveries which were few and far between. He will be forgotten with 2-3 years.

General_Public Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Terrific bowler.Used to be a genuine match-winner who could swing it around in a couple of overs. But lets face it. He's been past his prime for the past two years. And will always be known for what he could have achieved.

There have been a few cases when he refused to bowl and in some cases he even feigned injury - the most notable instance against Ind in 2004. With India in a comfortable position and piling runs (Dravid scored 270) in a series decider, Akhtar refused to bowl and only came out to bat which he was able to without any difficulty. Inzi was so upset he made a few public comments as well after the game. I don't think he's the right example of a cricketer who gave "100%" on the field. If you had said Sami I would have agreed - the guy may not have been successful but I always say him give his 100% whether bowling or batting for his team.

Cricket will never be the same after arguably the most destructive bowler at his peak takes a bow. Thank you for the entertainment and hope to see you in the IPL. May you be cheered in India, as vociferously as you were when you first donned the KKR jersey and ran it to victory. You rock! :bow:

Ram Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 No surprises there at all – it was obvious that his body conditioning was nowhere near the levels it had to be, to match the rigors of international cricket. He always seemed only one spell away from another injury. As a professional, I have little to no respect for him at all – You can imagine the kind of damage his egomaniacal tendencies would have possibly caused in a team atmosphere. There seemed to be a distinct disconnect between the world’s perception of him and what he perceived of himself. His list of disciplinary transgression would put even Charlie Sheen to shame. On the balance, I think his career caused more damage to Pakistan than good. But, he’s obviously a terrific natural athlete. His dodgy action notwithstanding, it was quite an impressive sight to watch him bowl at the peak of his powers, regularly crossing 95 mph.

Exciting to watch in his heyday but everyone could see the writhing was on the wall for him. Wish him good luck in whatever he pursue in his post playing career.

He is one Pakistani player i will always remember because i started to get into cricket around the time of the 99 world cup and it was a joy watching him in that tournament.

I won't forget the night b4 Calcutta martch, I was chatting on mIRC with a Pakistani, who said to beware someone called Aktar. I was high on Sachins form and told em to eff off. I never met the guy on Chat after those wickets
