Hope they do not hire Langoti as the coach. I am not convinced about Langoti and would not want an Aussie coach too. Saffer would still be a better coach IMO. I would go for Jonty or Pollock maybe if required. If needed I would hire both.

Langer is a top bloke and is fantastic with regards to management but he can't quite understand the Indian culture. The Aussie and Indian cultures are far apart. The South African on the other hand operate a lot like Indian culture. I'd say bring in another South African or get one from England.

I am not convinced an English coach would suit us. Normally former English players have a lot of attitude and that might not work out very well with the Indian players. We need a coach with very less attitude and who does not interfere too much with the team management or it will be another Chappel era. Gary and Wright were successful because they were more like a mentor rather than a coach. We need a coach who works more like a mentor rather than interfering too much. English coaches are too particular about their cricketing skills and they would probably not want to act only as a mentor. They would interfere a lot and bring their English attitude and that might not work very well.

Why not just get an Indian as coach?
Coz Indian coaches aren't generally good puppets. They try to get the best out of the team by not getting manipulated by the skipper and that unfortunately isn't the way an Indian coach is supposed to function. The only realistic and apt Indian option is Lalchand Rajput under whom we won the T-20 World Cup, the series in Australia and a few more, during his limited tenure. It is a real shocker that he isn't even spoken about these days.

So you think John Wright was a puppet or Gary Kirsten is a puppet.............or Guru Greg was a puppet who was controlled by Ganguly :hehe:

Kapil Dev should become India's coach and Shaun Pollock should be the bowling coach.
Oh no... No Kapil Dev. He was a great player but not a very good coach... His coaching stint was nothing but disaster.

Wright was a puppet. He was sacked the minute he revolted. Check out Sunny Gavaskar's piece on it. He was miffed with all the seniors for mistreating someone who took the team to #2 in the world. Greg was no puppet and we all know what happened, don't we? Bottomline - Employ puppets. They will shut up, take your crap and let you look great. On the flipside, employ a tough cookie and discipline might take an upswing. And we so need it.

They went for foreign coach in 2000 with the seniors saying indian coaches came with little input on strategy and tactics, and some other areas. The australian system ensures the talented aussie youngster gets the best from past expertise and experience . With a lack of sporting achievement internationally, we don't have a similar "treasure of knowledge" we can tap upon.Barring batting focourse. till we have our own sporting champions and our own expertise in various areas , foreign help will be necessary. they are supposed to plug the gaps in our knowledge step by step.
