+1 I was amazed by the sea change in Yuvi's attitude. Maybe the string of poor performances and IPL humiliation forced him to pull up his socks.

22 yr olds don't perform such things ina big WC match.look at all big matches, you need seniors to perform the heavyweight role. wrong expectations. he is too young to play a role of the primary matchwinner on a big occasion. The supporting role that he played yesterday would have been a more realistic expectation and that's how he really performed.

Agree somewhat with you as I was disappointed with Kohli's performance in this WC. Apart from that one century against BD and a half ton at a poor SR vs WI, I don't think Kohli did anything special. He doesn't have a second string to his bow for the ODIs though he is good fielder, that 4 through the legs notwithstanding. He was clueless down the order as he has no power hitting in his game and thats a serious handicap for limited over games. He has a long way to go. We can say that he is very much a work in progress and I'll be happy if he shows the progress he showed in the SA tour. Hope his feet are firmly on the ground and eyes and mind focussed on improvement. If it is so, he'll get better. If he'll try to be glory one of boys he'll go downhill pretty fast.

he is developing those shots. he played some really good ones vs malinga and others in the champions league. in the next year or so, we may see more full fledged shotmaking from him. that's why i was asking some posters here to hold their horses.

I would not magnify these failures. Every palyer in our team had atleast one or two failures. Failure is scoring 19 runs in entire world cup like Inzi did in 2003 or 20 runs in entire world cup like Mahela did in 2003. This guy is far from failure. This 35 runs were invaluable at the end of the day much like Kaif's 35 at centurion. My only judgement will be based on how his stay was at the crease. Was he scratching around and struggling. No way. He was comfortable against all types of bowling. Even Sachin was struggling to pick Ajmal.

Its not about temperament. its about his maturity in internaitonal cricket. for gambhir, dhoni and yuvraj to play those knocks yesterday, all those years of pratcise,skill accumalation,mental maturity counted. without these years of experience at a high level, they would not be able to it. The senior players have had time to sort out their game better and strike the ball better, have a bigger bag of tricks and experince facing seeral bowlers. kohli has clocked only two years so far at the internaitonal level. This makes a heavyweight knock in WC semis or WC final unlikely. that's the real reason for lack of a big knock in a big occasion.

sachin had not faced ajmal before and conditions made hafeez and yuvraj look like good bowlers. efefctvely sachin was a "fresher" before ajmal but he had the experience to last longer.

when did tendulkar make his debut? his was an exceptional case as he was taken in as a 16 yr old. in the 96 WC, tendulkar had 7 years of experience and he made his first hundred in 1994 fater SIX years. you want to compare to kohli with his 2 yr experience? there is no comparison to tendulakr as of now.

Yesterydays knock of Kohli was as vital as Mohammad Kaif's knock in that chase against pakistna in 2003 with Sachin. He scored 30odd Kaif, but it was a very important innings with Tendulkar which people never really talked about. Yesterday also, Kohli played similiar knock and infact a bit more important actually. Yes, i share the same sentiments too, I think he underachieved a bit in this tournament. He should have scored some more runs in this tournament.

Kohli's innings was match saving yesterday. At 31-2, both our amazing openers gone for low scores, a rapid Malinga bowling, and with a tall task ahead of him (and remember, in a WORLD CUP FINAL), Kohli played an innings that was calm, mature, and vital to our success. The partnership he had with Gambhir was simply invaluable, and without it we would have lost yesterday. He was dismissed to a beaut of a catch but by the time he was out, the job was done. He put India back on track, and gave the likes of Dhoni and Yuvraj the perfect platform to finish the job. Hats off to Kohli. I think he is definitely the brightest prospect we have in Indian cricket. Blood him into the test team ASAP, I say.

dynamics of a WC KO game totally different. england and sl have been thrashed here handily in the past but in the WC they have played well here. when we came into the wc Final in sa,We had a very poor rcord in SA and sachin was the man of the tournament despite his not so great record there at that time.. WC different.

This is not on for a player who has had great average chasing. He is there for a reason. Deserves more than just "Best of a bad bunch"
