ganeshran Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Though AajTak has given it close competition, India TV has managed to take the crown of probably the worst news channel in Indian history. They spread rumors, encourage superstition, spread misinformation, disguise entertainment as news and much more. the sensationalism and spin given to articles is unbearable. Can the government please ban India TV and stop this nonsense dished out to us.
Desi Cartman Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Its just sad, they are single handedly making Indians dumber. Few months ago they were showing an iceberg near Aus (near is like 1800 kms) then they showed clipping from Titanic and said " yeh Melbourne ko aise tabah kurdega jaise isne titanic ko duba dia tha " I
PaiN_KiLLeR Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Isn't this the most watched news channel in the country?
ViruRulez Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 All Indian news channels are crap and all bring more and more crap for TRP .. they are all *****y and are Peepli Live but the only thing is that India TV are light years ahead of the rest .. all present Indian channels needs to be banned .. they are bothered more about TRP rather than real news .. every news channel is twisting news for more viewership and shows news which will attract more viewership The only somewhat good channels are Sahara Samay and Zee News but they will remain small channels as they do not bring that much crap as other channels do

On what grounds? The only valid reason to ban them was their sansanikhej reporting during 26/11 which did more harm than good. But many more were unwittingly guilty then.

India TV (along with a few others like IBN7, Star News, AajTak etc) was officially warned by the I&B Ministry a few months ago not to "manufacture" news out of thin air (as these channels usually do in order to create sensation) and not to show absurd and foolish stories regarding Bhoots, Swarg Ka Darwaaza, Him Manav etc - most of the channels have since then moderated their content a bit but India TV continues to show such news - and now in a few months a TV regulatory authority is going to be set up by the Govt............so unless India TV falls in line, a ban is the next step.
Clarke Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 There must be some licensing requirements that filter the news channels from the propaganda hawks. Anyone working in the media industry has a clue on this ?
akshayxyz Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 It is there, because it is getting good audience or someone very rich is behind it. Can't do anything unless they do something illegal. Don't like it, don't watch it - let TRP do the justice.

Its just that they also show news along with this. If you watch India TV for 2-3 hours at a stretch there are very high chances that you may not even get to see the news headlines, let alone detailed news about the current issues. Most of the time that channel is just showing special shows on completely useless topics which are more often than not, a creation of the media. In case of Times Now etc you will at least get the news along with sensationalism.
ganeshran Posted April 8, 2011 Author Posted April 8, 2011 Everything sucks other than NDTV Yes.. NDTV is a very biased channel. Its just that the bias is very subtle towards Congress. The Radia tapes showed how close Barkha is to the Congress high command.
beetle Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Most of their exclusive "pehli baar on TV"stories are lifted from U tube clips. They take a minute clip and turn it into a half an hour news story.
f.b.m Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Yes lets ban India TV. While we're at it, lets also ban Pizzas, mallus, Louis vuittons, christmas and sweat. In fact let 'us' pass a ban a second. It'll make the world so much better if only the government 'protected' us from all evil.

My argument is not a statist one calling the government to 'protect' us from evil. If India TV had a shred of credibility, I would never favour regulation of the news media by the government. But India TV has lost all sense of what constitutes news and what does not. They could simply call themselves an entertainment channel and show whatever trash they choose.

Sachin=GOD Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 SO CHANGE THE FECKING CHANNEL!! How hard is that? why should such utter BS be allowed on TV...........and on top of that they have the audacity to call it "news".

They could simply call themselves an entertainment channel and show whatever trash they choose. I know what you are getting at. But that is not reason to ban it. Not very long ago, DD was doing exactly the same thing. Fabricated news. Fabricated programing. Fabricated public opinions etc etc. ANd back then, people say it wasn't even entertaining. And it was the only option back then. So in a span of a few decades we've gone from state TV spewing nonsense to private channels doing the same. :D If anything news channels are more balanced now. Also, India TV may highlight celeb news or mythology or whatever, because it sells. I think as S=G mentioned, they were issued a show cause notice once. But that was something to do with copyright infringement and not because the veracity of the news. I completely share your views on India TV. But banning it is plain wrong. And unconstitutional.
