Don't you think, after winning the World Cup and being the #1 Test Team we deserve nothing but the best when it comes to players. I mean how dare this kal ka nitwit bowling at a meagre avg. speed of 140-145kmph, expect to be accepted into a side like ours? It's only if we keep these sort of upstarts down, stifle them and derail their fledgling careers at the beginning, that we can keep a spot open for the true blue 150+ express pacer when he shows up. The kind of bowler who can and will be comparable to Steyn, Tait and Akhtar. We deserve it. We deserve nothing but. We will not suffer anymore. All posts that you have ever made are based on Indian sarcasm -- so well done. At the same time I think many many casual readers will miss the sarcasm part. I don't want Varun to be immediately grafted into the Indian team. But anybody bowling consistently over 140k and many deliveries over 145k need to be encouraged to keep on bowling quick and increase their pace if possible. The biggest problem with Indian pace bowling is not that we do not produce fast bowlers. It is that bowlers somehow lose the motivation to bowl quick after 1 season. This needs to change. We need a system where all bowlers need to improve other facets of pace bowling without dropping pace. This is the biggest need of the hour if we want to improve our pace bowling. I reiterate -- we need to create a pool of genuinely quick bowlers if we want a couple of good ones. A genuine fast bowling culture needs to be there in our cricketing circuit. It is not possible to have a Dale Steyn if all the others are like Munaf Patel. Countries like SAF and Australia have a few mediocre and even bad genuinely quick bowlers in their domestic circuit who, I am sure, are not encouraged to bowl like Munaf. At the same time we should not try to change genuine swing bowlers like Irfan and Chhahar into Shoaib. People should stick to their strengths and any new arsenel in a bowler's armoury should be gradual and well practiced so that the old strengths are not lost.
express bowling Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 @ rkt.india You have repeatedl poined out that fast bowlers are at their quickest between 26 and 29 -- that is very true. There is a big possibility that our current crop of quicks, who are between 20 and 22, will get quicker provided they retain the will to bowl quick. That intention must be encouraged. Our own Javagal Srinath was at his quickest on the SAF tour of 1996, when he was 26/27. He touched 156k then acccording to a newspaper report and many thought he was quicker than Donald. I have generally enjoyed your various titbits on fast bowling. :two_thumbs_up:

I think it is vital for bowlers like him and Yadav to be covered under a special program where they are coached and mentored by genuine fast bowlers. They need specialized coaching both with regards to bowling techniques as well as fitness regimen. I am sure both Yadav and Aaron will greatly benefit working under Eric Simmons at DD. One of the big positives of IPL is this opportunity that the youngsters get to play and learn from top professionals!

The seniors including Zak would be probably rested and he should make the cut. Looks quite promising as of now. Today he is bowling even better than the last match. If the seniors are not playing then maybe both Varun Aaron and Yadav should be given a chance.

If he is not able to sustain 140s in even a four over spell then will he be able to sustain it in a 10 over spell or a test match and that is a very important question. Yadav sustains 140s even in the fourth over. Would need to watch a few more matches to confirm that aspect of Aaron. Last match too he was losing pace towards the later part of his spell and panting if I remember correctly.

I am not going to jump up and down.. for genuine quick to succeed it is not enough if you bowl few balls that beat batsman for pace. Munaf has done that several times when he started his career. So did Ishant, Even Nehra has done it occasionally. He was certainly panting a lot today

He needs to work on his yorkers..He should really work hard on it. Most top class bowlers bowl very good yorkers..

Last match too he was losing pace towards the later part of his spell and panting if I remember correctly. no..speed guns are not consistent today....and also chennai is very hot and humid. i have seen him bowl at 144 ks avg pace for 10 overs in devhdar trophy one day match. he is just coming out of injury and a quite a long lay off too...though. i have watched quite a few videos of him and he certainly averages 140+ for even long spells. and maybe he was trying to be accurate here...T20 is more about accuracy. his last ball of last over was 144k..and he was mixing the pace well. those shown in 130s were not 130s as agarkar was shown in 120s..

But his line and length was quite accurate today. Was getting the ball to zip off the surface. Wonder why DD did not pick him for earlier games.
