I understand it's fashionable to put down India and Indian cricket in Eng/Aus but if Ranji team can be "beaten by a team from Birmingham league" how come we are ranked 1 in tests and World champions? After all our players came through the same system and the youngsters like Kohli, Pujara, Ashwin etc. are products of the same system. Or maybe you think this "Birmingham League Team" is better than Eng team?

Oh, and on the superior quality of domestic cricket teams coming out of England..they haven't really set the Champions League on fire so far..have they? Or maybe they purposefully don't perform in the Champions League because it has an IPL connection to it, now we all know how the righteous Englishmen loath the tamasha cricket league that IPL is!

Also was bowling quite a few unplayable balls in his first spell. Good thing is he is still playing cricket after a career threatening injury while the likes of Freddie Flintoff with all the tailunt have given up!!

We don't send them to England because the english club players are better than them :cantstop: If you are to say that Aussie or even some SAFican first class teams are better than most Ranji sides, I will agree with you (because all of the top players are jampacked into 6 - 8 good sides). But not so about county sides. Infact I would want a similar tier of quality first class teams in India playing tests and ODIs against each other because that would be a substantial rise in quality above Ranji cricket. The IPL teams having an informal Test/ODI league among themselves will solve the purpose.

But that may be hangover that I have based on past glory of county circuit where all leading players of worlds will gather in England to represent different counties. But currently as I know some international discards, some kolpak and some south africans are the only internationals who play in county cricket. Standards are clearly fallen and you can't say surely that it's heah and shoulder above Ranji trophy. You may be right that some of the indian players who are big in Indian FC are not considered much in county. But then we have opposite examples as well where almost nobodies of Indian FC become star performers of county like Murali Kartik or Piyush Chawla. Overall county cricket may have a bit better standards than Ranji trophy. But there are certain aspects in which Ranji trophy is certainly better than county. And some of the Ranji team would be better than many of the county teams. I would like somebody with actual knowledge to throw some light on this.

I'm sick of hearing this nonsense. He always had talent. He took his place in Indian team granted and as a result lost his place. He bent his back, became bit more professional and fit as he is an overseas player and expected to do well in countless number of matches they play in a season. The same argument applies to watson too. Watson doesn't owe anything to IPL..

Warwickshire needed 10 off 2 balls, Woakes hits a 6 off Dominic Cork, could not hit a boundary off the last ball. Cork would be feeling happy or else would have left a scar for rest of his life :giggle: wow simon jones :woot: i will never forget the wya he silenced clarke and gilly in the 2005 ashes was seriously an awesome bowler of reverse swing i hope he plays for england again

Logically speaking, Duleep Trophy should have highest standard of FC cricket as they select team from best of Ranji performers. But intriguingly it hardly happens in practice. One reason may be that Duleep Trophy happens very much towards the end of indian cricket season and players are already exhausted by that time. Secondly, players from different Ranji teams come together to play in a team on a very short notice and they hardly have time to get together as an unit..
